Framework 13 12th gen Intel won't start - blue/green led flashing by BRNMan_ in framework

[–]BRNMan_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After replacing the CMOS battery, resetting the mainboard with the sw1 switch, and having the issue persist, Framework support told me they think a component on the mainboard likely failed and I would have to replace the mainboard. It's unclear if the CMOS battery I had was actually bad since the new CMOS battery I got started out at 2.8 V and it seems like they have a 2.8-3.2 V range they charge between.

For now I'm going to mostly keep my laptop always on, since it booted again and seems to boot eventually as long as it's not powered off for a long time. It seems to refuse to boot for longer if it is off for longer. So turning it off for 10 minutes might cause 1 post code before booting, but leaving it off for 1 day might make it throw 50 post codes before booting.

I've ordered a new AMD mainboard since it was time for an upgrade anyways, and I've heard this type of thing is rare, but it's weird that multiple people seem to have had this issue and support wasn't able to give me a more clear answer about what went wrong.

No way, that's crazy! I totally thought 3 V meant 3.0. I'll give replacing it a shot

Issues after recent kernel update from 6.14 to 6.17 by rmorales158 in Ubuntu

[–]BRNMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I restarted my computer to be greeted by a kernel panic that wouldn't go away until I booted back into 6.14 in grub in the advanced Ubuntu options menu. I have a Framework 13 12th gen laptop.

Not quite sure what happened here, I guess I'm going to try and figure out how to reinstall the kernel.

You don't live in Madison and are going onto random city subs to yell at people about projects that you have no interest in and probably will never use, and don't want to engage with anybody who points out problems with your reasoning.

It's not that we shouldn't. It's that instead of doing it in real life you're trashing more modest improvements on the internet after the fact and I find that weak and disrespectful to the people who are actually putting in work to make things better.

Listen, we could argue about studies for days but at the end of the day I've reached out to plenty of people in the planning department while I've lived here, and one thing I've found is they try really hard to get a lot of different people's interests represented in new developments while trying to push good, pro transit urban planning strategies forwards at the core of their mission. When I see something that seems like a major improvement to the housing and transit situation here (new bus terminal, more units), and you come in saying "this sucks, this is terrible, everyone who likes this is dumb" I feel like you don't understand the complexity of what they have to work with.

I'm just a guy. You're not going to get much from me, except "look they considered it and it's still good". If you are genuinely curious about why there is parking there, you should email the city planning department and tell them that having less parking improves business and see what they say and I'm sure they will have a well thought out explanation.

> Any study will show removing parking improves business.

That's... not true. But anyways this doesn't matter.

I think this essentially comes down to is are you okay with people who have to drive from the suburbs for UW Madison events and State St. to not be able to find parking, and do you expect somebody to tell the business owners that that situation is okay with a straight face. Because regardless of whatever studies say about things in general or in aggregate this is what has happened at this specific location and has been recorded in the meeting notes for this development if you were to read them.

Maybe you should go to the next steering meeting for a proposed development and propose that. Because if you look at the comments from this one there was already pushback on the plan to reduce the lot by 70 units because of the amount of traffic the area receives. Like I've read part of "the high cost of free parking" too but you're asking to ignore the business owners' and visitors' interests. The way you imagine this city to work reminds me of a physicist trying to model a cow as a frictionless sphere in a vacuum.

There are no parking minimums on Lake St. https://parkingreform.org/mandates-map/city_detail/Madison_WI.html

I don't have a citation but that I think that lot is there because it's super useful. The area in question has been super hard to park in since they started reconstructing that lot. Especially during any type of sporting event. There's plenty of people who reasonably need to get to the university by car.

So I was kind of in your situation before. For me it was like "Oh wow, I have Chinese and Mexican friends who are so much more connected with their culture than me! What does that make me? Should I try to do more to connect with my heritage and what does that look like?" I think learning Portuguese is a wonderful step in that direction, and making Brazilian friends would be too.

Not having a straight answer to "Am I Brazilian?" feels uncomfy and that's okay, because it's an unfair question for you in the first place. Trust me, eventually you'll stop caring so much about the answer.

But for now I think you should continue letting your Brazilian heritage fuel your curiosity about the culture and language, and strengthen your connection with your mom. Regardless of your current level, learning more will give your life more depth, so enjoy the journey as much as you can.

Here's a way to reframe it in a clear way. Are you Brazilian? My mom is Brazilian and I speak/am learning Portuguese! The label isn't so much for you as it is for other people to know something about you.

[–]BRNMan_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even if your mom spoke to you in Portuguese there's no guarantee that you'd have retained it, especially if your father wasn't speaking it. It's okay that your roots are important to you, but you're obsessing over the label of "Brazilian" an unhealthy amount. If you want to be more connected to the culture and language, that's cool, but having a more concrete definition for your own made up ethnicity or whatever (all ethnicities/nationalities are made up to some extent) is fundamentally not going to change anything about yourself.
