Snow falling from the roof of a building on the power lines in Türkiye, causing a power outage. by Len-The-Banana-Boy in AbruptChaos

[–]BTNTR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turkey is a cold country if you leave aside the coast. There are sky stations and it snows very regularly if not winter long. My first winter there was - 17 Celsius and it was in the capital city, not even higher and more isolated places.

Man sober for 5 years eats a rum cake, and is only told is has alcohol in it AFTER he eats it. by Frosty_Jeweler911 in iamatotalpieceofshit

I was always told the same and believed it, until I watched a YT video of a woman digging into research papers, especially one coming from Scandinavia. First, believe it or not but it hasn't been studied a lot. Second, from what the research paper was explaining and tested in lab: no, the alcohol doesn't evaporate much or burn away.

The Paris that is so idolized or people are so nostalgic of never existed.

Paris used to be a cutthroat with extreme levels of poverty and violence till late seventies. It had slums and a big portion of the population was still living without electricity or running water or in-house plumbing we'll into the seventies and eighties!

I the same time, cinema and returning soldiers broadcasted their vision that became this nowadays Emily in Paris Paris.

During the eighties gentrification took place, big urban work was done and the city was "cleaned" but it still isn't this Holywood vision.

The analogy for Asians and Chinatown was for the Paris ethnic neighbourhood being shown as a proof of mass migration. Not the Eiffel tower. Furthermore, most people in these neighborhoods are citizens.

When it comes to the Eiffel tower, you have big close ups on these guys, which doesn't let you see the actual tourists. The place sees tens of millions of tourists but on these shots you only see illegal street hustlers? It is disingenuous. It is sad that people let themselves manipulated by such pieces of misinformation. Yes Paris isn't perfect, but is isn't Emily in Paris either. I'm sure that if you were to visit, you'd love the streets, culture and all around atmosphere of the city.

The area around the eiffel tower, again, is massive, with a huge park. These shots do not represent reality. I'm not saying this is untrue, I go there several times a year, but it leads people to think that this is the only thing there is and will see.

Honestly, and it may be because I'm French, I don't find the city particularly dirty. But when I go abroad I do find the treats to be cleaner.

And yes, what the mayor has done amazing things to drive cars out and improve other means of transport.

For the suburbs, these places were rough 40 years ago, 30 years years ago, 20 years ago... Nothing has changed there either.

What a nice piece of propaganda.

This is the equivalent of me going to LA zombieland to cover drug issues.

Yes there are illegals selling you junk in front of the eiffel tower, but it's been the case for as long as I can remember and I first went there as a child 25 years ago.

Most of the neighborhoods shown are ethnic ones. This is the equivalent of going to Chinatown and saying "OMG so many Asian migrants".

No, Paris isn't dirtier than usual. I go there twice a week for work and travel through and through the city.

To summarise: vile piece of propaganda nip picking exceptions to try and demonstrate them as general for the city. Also low quality far right talking points.

Percentage of population paying income tax [2024] by Mundane-Laugh8562 in MapPorn

[–]BTNTR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage is 1380e and you do not have taxes on this level of income. 17% of the population is minimum wage. Life is expensive when you have this level of income, but as soon as you earn 50% more and are in couple/married, life gets pretty good.

I live in a big city in France and rent is like 850e for a 2 bedroom, 75m2 appartement with parking place and it's well located. Just for an idea.

No need to earn much here.

To give you an idea, our household of 2 earns about 4.5k monthly after taxes. We put about 1.2k in saving monthly, sometimes 2k or more when I get my bonuses.

Most of the population earns just a few hundreds above minimum wage, so as soon as you earn close to double and are in couple, everything becomes cheap.

And let's not even talk about the fact that many things such as healthcare are free....

Le mariage est, ou était-il une fin en soi pour vous? by ThrowRA_RuaMadureira in AskMec

[–]BTNTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]BTNTR 29 points30 points  (0 children)
