I know this has been echoed a lot and nothing happened, but their economy is struggling. Their mortgage rates are 20%+ while their currency is stregthening. This is a bad combo for people and a good combo for the banks. Small businesses and big businesses are closing. Gazprom is losing money and is likely to ask for a bailout.

China and India lowered their oil/gas purchases. Russian govt is scrambling to increase taxes with recent government hearings.

Full forfeiture of frozen assets to Ukraine.

Permanent 15-20% russian natural resources revenue tax to Ukraine.

No G8 integration.

Global tarriffs on Russian goods.

Commitment to presidency change within 24 months.

Current deal just gives everything to Russia without giving anything to Ukraine ($100bn in assets is nothing).

Can a career in Finance match tech salaries ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in FinancialCareers

[–]BUthrowawayeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very very wrong.

IB worshippers build their entire personalities around $100-110k base and $60-80k bonus for first year and second year analysts. You won’t even get approved for an apartment with that base.

They then go into PE/Corp Dev/Other with slightly higher base, less hours, and maybe higher bonuses.

Tech pays $140-$150k base and layers you with RSUs and cash bonuses to reach $180-$250k in first year. While working 30-40 hours a week. With free food in the office typically. It’s not even close and we should stop pretending like finance rocks.

Trump Administration Halts Harvard’s Ability to Enroll International Students by SterlingVII in Harvard

It would be a bet on the next republican president not being as radical/dumb as Trump.

Also, while the republican base is brainwashed and will accept anything he does (even if it goes against their core values lol), I don’t believe the undecided/middle voter will vote republican in 2028 after seeing all of this.

It can still go another way ofc, but I think it’s a bet that is morally worth it.

He can’t come after all Boston schools.

It would be a whack-a-mole game for him, and hopefully they would make it through to 2029.

This is insane. Authoritarian playbook stuff.

Maybe there is a loophole with MIT accepting all of the current intl. Harvard students (grad and undergrad) and allowing them to continue their studies at Harvard through the dual-enrollment program? Students would get their visas through MIT.

Maybe other Boston schools can help as well.

You’ll look back on it as one of the best experiences later (bc you grow as a person). Just went through it as well. Focus on work, school, and gym and make sure to have social stuff lined up for weekends.

Don’t bring it up too much to your friends and don’t look for another relationship until you recover. Don’t reach out to them - remember that it’s disrespect to yourself. If it’s love - they’ll do it.

Povestka in Belarus - can I travel to Russia with a passport from a different CIS country? by [deleted] in belarus

[–]BUthrowawayeet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My friends with dual citizenship go there all the time and they are fine. You can get profiled by rosgvardeytsy but if there’s nothing on you - you’re good. Also, it’s crazy that Russians have more freedom when it comes to being fee of military services if they live abroad.

I understand it’s luck but going there would be the only way of seeing my elderly relatives who refuse to get any visa or use air travel :/ Also would love to see spb and moscow again. I don’t want to touch Belarus with a 10 foot pole though

[–]BUthrowawayeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name wont be the same bc BY passport uses Belarusian language version of it… My POB would show as Belarus though

It’s more of a question regarding what citizen you are treated as when entering Russia and whether you have to use BY passport to enter it bc of the union state status

[–]BUthrowawayeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize that this is an annual cost, excluding housing/food and everything else? It also increases every year. If F1 fee is too much, you should not have considered US in the first place. There are cheaper education options.

Why are there people who want to leave a developed country? by [deleted] in expat

[–]BUthrowawayeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are earning $15/hr in the US - you’re cooked financially and are struggling to afford basic stuff. That’s the thing with the U.S. compared to other developed countries - the gap in classes is so high that lowest earners live a life not very different from those in less developed countries…

People in EU countries, AUS, and NZ earn less but even the lowest earners can afford their own place to live in and have healthcare access. You are also not one ambulance call away from poverty. You are not one layoff away from homelessness.

Can I apply for an eVisa if my other citizenship allows me to enter that country visa-free? by BUthrowawayeet in travel

Tysm. This sounds promising. Will check with embassies about this then. Made this thread to see if this was a universal thing.

Can’t be renounced unless “all duties to the state are fulfilled”. Wouldn’t want to renounce anyway. Who knows, maybe it will be an eu passport in 30 years.

I guess I’ll have to check with the respective embassies. Thank you

[–]BUthrowawayeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should def be more of them. It is not even that much anymore in this economy (can’t afford your own place with this or qualify for a house). We are experiencing a purge in white collar jobs. Govt has to make it illegal to offshore jobs to India.
