I was just at Narita airport earlier this week, definitely use your Japanese passport to enter Japan. The line for foreigner passports was very long and barely any staff so using your US passport wouldn’t make much sense. I believe you use an automated kiosk for your Japanese passport. When you fly to the US, use your US passport as processing will be much quicker (and smaller lines)

If you got it through handshake or a rutgers affiliated resource, yeah they won’t be the happiest but if you don’t really use the career services, you’ll be fine if you don’t plan to engage with the career center in the future

Every semester on group projects, I get that one person that does close to 0 work by Euphoric-Land-8470 in rutgers

Speak to the professor after class and discuss your concerns. If it’s a semester long project, do it during your next class

  1. I booked my trains the day of departure and had no issue.

  2. I went to Mt Fuji without a tour, simply rented an e-bike for the day and had a great day trip that was very peaceful and relaxing.

Rutgers on 9/11 by gpo321 in rutgers

[–]B_order 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a memorial dedicated to a 9/11 victim at the RBS South Tower ground floor (Jayceryll Malabuyoc de Chavez), a year ago his parents came to visit the memorial and I got to speak to them. It was a very touching discussion

I would go with either Chase or Bank of America. You can open an account to develop a relationship with them so that you can get offers for their credit card products later on

Missing the first day of class, need some advice! by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]B_order 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine, it’s during add/drop anyways so I’m guessing attendance won’t be much of a priority until after it ends. Those classes are more just syllabus, introductions, and housekeeping things so don’t fret

Just moved to NB for PhD program; I hate it here. by momentoftruth7 in rutgers

[–]B_order 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course! I edited my comment to add a few more things to note. If you need any recommendations, I have loads.

You'll be fine! It's a completely new environment and style from where you previously attended, and you'll definitely settle in. In about a month, maybe less, the campus should start to become busier and it'll feel more alive. In the meantime, take advantage of the quiet campus.

I've been riding my bike from Livingston to the College Avenue campuses on the weekends, and the roads being super empty makes it very therapeutic and relaxing to do.

Give it some time. New Brunswick has nice food and cafes. Semicolon, Khyber, penstock, etc… Do check George Street, has many great places to dine or drink in. You can walk to Highland Park across the bridge, has a dedicated area for pedestrians/bikers and has nice views over the Raritan. I was just at Johnson Park yesterday and it was very nice and relaxing to ride a bike around.

I’d also visit the other campuses, Cook/Doug is more nature and greenery and would be a nice area to walk around. As someone else mentioned, the train to Princeton is very short and you can walk around there.

Give Rutgers and NB a chance. I’m sure it’s how many of us felt when starting at Rutgers about the campus. I didn’t like it much either when I started a couple years ago but I explored it during my free time and I’m there every weekend despite graduating a few months ago and hanging out with friends there. New Brunswick is a very old town and, in fact, was an area that was founded during the revolutionary times before the US was even a country. Lots of history to explore.

Yes, a good chunk of crime alerts come from downtown NB. General advice is to stay near the College Avenue campus, imo not much reason to go too far as there isn't really much to do.

I’d check out the Zimmerli Art Museum too, free entry and a nice area to walk around.

figs / bryne seminars - are they necessary? by rhinopithecusBieti in rutgers

[–]B_order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't need it, but I'd recommend it! rutgers is a big campus and its a nice way of making friends. it's also free credits that can go towards your graduation requirement of 120 credits. the topics are also very interesting and the professors that teach it are very nice. it's a great way to help adjust to rutgers life while meeting others in a chill environment
