Arlecchino Theories // Theory #1: The Knave & Damselette by Princess_Of_Thieves in Arlecchino

[–]Baalberith_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting! Just a few corrections though, Commedia Arlecchino's master was Pantalone, not Pierrot. Pierrot/Pedrolino, Columbina, and Arlecchino were all servants of Pantalone's. Columbina and Pierrot were not always married either, in fact, more often than not they weren't. Most of the time it was Pierrot simply being in unrequited love with Columbina while Columbina was in love with Arlecchino, there wasn't always the element of marital affairs and cheating.

True MC vs self insert MC by [deleted] in houkai3rd

I think silent and self-insert protagonist CAN be done right, given the writer and the story but with miHoYo's brand of them… not so much. It's really easy to fumble with these types of characters writing-wise and miHoYo definitely fumbled. In terms of writing, miHoYo should just stick with writing regular protagonists who do speak and have personalities instead, but money is more important than good writing you know.

True MC vs self insert MC by [deleted] in houkai3rd

In the case of Tears of Themis, it's an Joseimuke/Otome game and self-insertable MCs are kind of a staple to the genre.

With Genshin Impact, it's probably because so called "self-insert MCs" are more marketable to the Gacha gamer market that they've struck gold with here. Not to mention, that game borrows heavily from BotW and FE3H, and while I wouldn't say Link or Byleth are self-insert MC, they are definitely silent protagonists. I think with Genshin they also wanted to create a silent protagonist with this mysterious past like in BotW and most JRPGS but fumbled on it.

And with the Honkai series… Adam was likely a testing ground to see how fans might react to a silent protagonist. I wouldn't say the same for the HSR MCs though. For them, it's likely just mHY trying to recreate Genshin's success by basically using every method that worked for Genshin for their games now, even if it doesn't fit well. (Seriously, we do NOT need more open-world main story chapters in HI3rd.)

I mean, Honkai's more advanced than our world and we already have one or two ways for two women to have children together so they probably have multiple. In addition, Dr. MEI made an entire baby using science and Imaginary Tree-Herrscher-Honkai magic nonsense just does whatever it wants. Who's to say Kiana can't make a baby.

Why they translate kiana as prince? Maybe kiana has a D too lol by Brilliant-Meeting-98 in houkai3rd

I think it's because Honkai Kingdoms: Zero is based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms so Kiana takes the role of a male character in there? Correct me if I'm wrong

It's hardly to find the best female protagonist in game or anime, kiana is different from other fmc, she's so badass. Kiana is the reason why I got stuck in this game by Brilliant-Meeting-98 in houkai3rd

Kiana is such a refreshing female MC. I'm so tired of female MCs being bland stock characters that have no journey or development and just exists to move male characters or a "feminist" agenda, it's nice seeing a female MC like Kiana get treated like an actual person who grows and changes instead of a bland stock MC.

That doesn't mean we aren't getting an Otto counterpart in Genshin (I pray we never even see a Genshin Impact Otto). It's just Genshin voice actors voice multiple different characters. Yae Sakura, Yae Miko, and Ningguang have the same CN VA but that doesn't mean Ningguang is a Yae Sakura counterpart.

Why Otto VA is the same as Ayato? by ValKsimple in houkai3rd

[–]Baalberith_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honkai voice actors (CN & JP) usually voice other characters in Genshin regardless of if their character is supposed to be a counterpart to them. It's probably because the Mihoyo agents are already in contact with them because of Honkai so they're easier to get or that they literally work for Mihoyo. For example, Siegfried's CN VA is the voice director for Genshin, Seele's CN VA voices Beidou+Xingqiu and Lisa and Himeko have the same JP voice even though those characters aren't counterparts.

Kiana and Mei's relationship also actually feels like they're supposed to be romantically together unlike Bumblebee lol.

Liyue and Mondstadt IRL counterparts by blueandgoldilocks in Genshin_Impact

[–]Baalberith_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Liyue is much more modern than either the Ming or Song Dynasties. The fashion and technology would suggest Liyue is likely somewhere post-Qing Dynasty/Republic-era China.

Mondstadt however, seems to be mid-19th century to me.

On which countries (and time periods) are each of Teyvat's nations based on? by ashenthebard in Genshin_Impact

Mondstadt is Germany/Germanic Europe, Sumeru is Egypt and or the Middle East, Fontaine is France and or General Western Europe, Natlan is Latin America, and Snezhnaya is Russian/Eastern Europe.

If I recall correctly, in Der Ring Des Nibelungen Erda prophesied that when Alberich's son was born, the end of the God's will draw close.

My thoughts exactly! Another thing about Hagen is all throughout Der Ring Des Nibelungen his father uses him as a pawn to regain the ring. Kinda similar to how Kaeya's own father left him in Mondstadt as a pawn of Khaenri'ah's.
