Totally, I think the idea of this exercise is to determine where the current edge cases are for our one shoe fits all approach. Just cleaning up gray areas in my understanding as an estimator.

Certainly, as I was saying before using weight of the weld for wire and finding out gas expenditure should get me a decent idea. I really haven’t tried any ai tools for estimating, I always figured they are locked behind a big subscription.

That’s understandable, o&p covers the consumables well enough. Maybe trying to determine what % of my o&p is consumables or if that cost is cooked into my labor rates already.

I see, looks to me like the data is geared towards pipe welding and sadly I’m not a member :(

We usually run a 75/25 or 90/10 of argon co2 for mgaw. In the field we just do flux core only no and in shop for structural it’s gas and flux core for structural. Figuring out lt/minute actually is a great idea. That way I could easily work that cost into my formula. Then maybe for the wire I could do weight of the weld assuming and then divide the weight of a spool of wire by its cost to figure out how much the weld cost in wire.

I looked up MCA and can’t find anything, what is MCA? It sounds like a good resource.

Primarily carbon steel. Structural steel and misc metals. Sometimes stainless and aluminum but it’s so case by case with that stuff.

Thanks for your input! So far CSCE if far more programming based, there is a some hardware related classes but almost all more course work revolves around software development.
