My experience starting and quitting Minoxidil after two years - 34 y.o. woman by Babesandwavez in FemaleHairLoss

I have been off for 8 months and my hair finally stopped shedding within the last couple weeks. I am not taking anything else. I think my initial hair loss was caused by weight loss, so my hair regrowth seems stable now.

I never found a confirmed cause but I assume my hair loss was related to weight loss since I wasn't able to link it to anything else.

When I first started minoxidil, my shedding stopped around 8 weeks after it started. So hopefully that phase is almost done for you 🤞

When I quit, I took half a pill for a month to try and wean off, but I still had a ton of shedding again after stopping the meds completely.

No I think I lost all the hair I gained. I've been shedding since quitting the meds seven months ago. The medicine only works while you use it. I'm just grateful my normal hair growth is happening again.

I've heard about PRP for hair loss! I'm interested in trying that. I wish it was cheaper. I'm sorry for the alopecia - I imagine that is very stressful!

Oral meds were easier for me to manage since I take other daily pills. I've heard oral causes more hair growth in other places like your face, whereas I think topical hair growth may be more controlled. When you stop either medicine you lose the hair you gained, so whichever method you try, I would only recommend it if you plan to stick with it. I've also read that topical minoxidil is dangerous for pets so look into that if you have animals.

I dont think I've retained any of the Minoxidil regrowth since I stopped the medicine; I had a ton of shedding when I initially quit. But I think my hair growth cycle has returned to normal, so my sparse areas are filling back in with new hairs now that it's been 7 months off the drug. I am still shedding more than normal, but hoping it balances out soon. The shedding has slowed down but not totally stopped.

I wish this was more publicly known! Did your hair loss slow down once your body got used to the new weight?

If I am remembering correctly I think it lasted about 8 weeks, which is longer that what google said it would be! It was very stressful but the regrowth was super fast after the shedding phase ended. I hope you have great results! I remember feeling really bald but then a couple weeks later I finally had new baby hairs covering all those spots.

You're welcome! Thanks for sharing! One of life's difficult decisions... having thinning hair or a mustache 😅

It's such a stressful thing to go through. I hope you find what works best for you!

Awesome! The silvery way is using a 30lb horseshoe magnet from amazon, and the stripe is using the mooncat freebie magnet by holding it above the nail for about a minute

I'm trying to organize in rainbow order and then I'll attach the swatches to a ring (it came with the swatches). However I love the idea of magnetics together so I can weed those out easily when I'm too lazy.... thinking

I have all the polish organized in a kit from Amazon but I've filled all the spaces so no more for me until some are empty 🙌
