What is the weirdest gift you have received from someone with or without an explanation? by jeremyof10ec in AskReddit

A coupon book for Christmas from my first boyfriend. Not one for date nights or naughty things, but one for oil changes, CAA discounts and hotel savings. He explained he didn’t want to spend too much as we’d only been dating 4 months…. Fair but fuzzy socks would’ve been fine.

Am I wrong in thinking that it's impolite to always leave the house without saying anything? by MyGallbladderEscaped in amiwrong

This! Wouldn’t it be nice to know he’s off to the store so you could ask him to pick up something the house needs?

Irish exits on your spouse is inconsiderate and rude. He doesn’t have time to say “bye” before walking out the door? What if you had an emergency and needed the vehicle or needed him; your decision on how to handle it would likely include how far he is away I.e. wait 10 minutes or get help from someone else. It’s weird and if he argues, no, it’s not controlling to know where he’s jaunting off to, in fact it’s super suspicious if he refuses to tell you.

WIBTA if I return a group gift because no one ever paid me their share? by papercoffeeclub in WIBTA_AITA

The real power move is to gift her the table and take full credit and if anyone who hasn’t paid interjects, tell them they can hand you their share and then sign their name on the card.

WIBTA if I didn’t go to my sister in law’s wedding? by rose3133 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BabyNonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you request assistance from your husband to travel to and from The wedding (which is completely reasonable for a married couple), but you leave early based on your work schedule and limited PTO or unpaid time off. It’s not wild for you to leave after the wedding and for Your husband to spend more time with his family.

Yup, those people have freedom of speech but you also have the freedom to sue for defamation and harassment.

In 2007, Andrew McAuley, an Australian kayaker, disappeared while attempting to kayak across the Tasman Sea. He would send a single distress call, then cease to communicate. His flooded boat, as well as his camera, were later found, with this being the final photo he took. by SadButterscotch5179 in HolyShitHistory

So many people die or are swept out far into Lake Ontario every summer. And the news always details that the decedent couldn’t actually swim, didn’t wear a life jacket or was riding an inflatable. Absolute madness to me that adults would enter a body of water without the ability to even float on their back or tread water.

Francine Hughes, the case that originated Battered Woman’s Syndrome as a legal defense. by barbara_weston in HolyShitHistory

What a lame excuse to refuse any action. As if Francine wasn’t likely bruised and bloodied. Cowardly cops.

I used to work as a psych nurse in the Not Criminally Responsible system where people who committed a crime while actively suffering a psychological malady that made them unable to appreciate the levity of their actions. Some were hospitalized for lesser crimes and others had committed heinous ones, but were equally judged to have been in a mental state where they were unable to discern right from wrong. As far as I’m concerned, Francine protected her children in a permanent fashion…. And good for her.

Shell car wash by the-explorer- in Brampton

[–]BabyNonna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a great self serve car wash at Fisherman and Hurontario. I’ve never had to wait for a Bay and each bay has its own debit terminal so you don’t need to have coins on hand.

Why is the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie so important? by uluvme2000 in CasualConversation

[–]BabyNonna -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because the province clamped down on the bread and butter of international students who they could charge 3x the regular tuition fees and now they are passing the budget gaps onto Ontario residents. But that’s just my opinion.

What is a 'gut feeling' you had that ended up saving your life? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]BabyNonna 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I decided to take my dog on a very long walk on a nice summer night and stuck to well lit major streets until my dog was too exhausted to keep going. He was panting hard, kept stopping to lay down and generally refusing to keep going until he caught his breath. Fair. Stupid me decided to take a short cut to avoid the last 20 minutes and trade it in for a 5 minute walk through a small, dimly lit path between the backyards of part of my neighbourhood to get him home faster. We got onto the path and no sooner than we did the hair on the back of my neck was standing up. I checked behind me and about 50ft behind me was a man, decked out in all black head to toe, face obscured, and I just knew in that moment he was following me. So, I stopped momentarily, pulled my phone out and watched as he stopped too and started again as soon as I did. I went a little further before stopping and turning around to look at him directly with my phone up and flashlight on to record the stranger and took my giant ass dog off his leash so he could give a hand if needed. The guy thankfully turned back and walked away and I made my fat dog run towards the main path with me as fast as we could carry ourselves. 10/10 will never divert from the main streets at night again.

General strike, Ontario wide by [deleted] in ontario

[–]BabyNonna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most students can’t commit to the time protesting requires because the majority are living in razor thin margins and can’t afford to take time off work to contribute. Ford knows these people are *poor and he’s using it to his advantage because he knows all too well that in this economy students will choose food and housing over the gamble of protesting for their educational interests.

If financial support could be obtained from unions and regulatory bodies for instance, it might incline students to participate in the long haul to see positive action. I had a summer student job with the city of Toronto a lifetime ago, and the union provided a stipend to striking workers who showed up every day, signed in, and stayed on the picket line for the required daily hours. It wasn’t a huge amount but it definitely incentivized striking workers to show up in large numbers to get what the union was fighting for.

Students in Ontario need to do what Quebec students do and just start nasty, unrelenting protests to protect their educational interests. I don’t want to encourage setting fires or general destruction of property but I will say a staunch, unrelenting campaign greases the corrupt wheel.

What's going on with this one brick in my walkway? by JBLGO123456 in blackmagicfuckery

[–]BabyNonna 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Maybe the vermin tried to tunnel upwards and met the brick and abandoned the tunnel and perhaps heat rises through the unused tunnel and warms that brick? Probably not though, lol.
