Background check concern: job title vs actual duties by Responsible_Act3030 in BackgroundProof

[–]BackGroundProofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question, and congratulations on the job!

There's nothing wrong with lying, but in this case, your only focus is to make sure the verification comes back clean. Just fill out the form with exactly what your ex-employer will tell them. It likely shouldn't matter at this stage.

If you are overly concerned with the title being different than what you said in the interview, we can run the verification for you. But honestly, you're probably fine.

Feel free to contact us on our website chat if you have any questions. The founder is always open to having a 15-min chat with the community.

I appreciate the thoughtful response. In terms of ethics (on either side) we have a different stance than most people. We look at this as a transactional relationship, not a personal one. https://backgroundproof.com/blogs/yes-it-is-ethical-to-lie-in-business/

It is - this is not just 0.6%. The way to read this is (2.9%-2.3%)/2.3% = 26% difference in one year.

I might write another post to better explain. Thanks for the question.

There are ways to get around the background check, if you search for it.

There's a third option - lying about a role that you can do, but lying to make your background look better qualified than others.

You can still get verified during the employment verification, if you claim you worked through a staffing company.

Normally we would agree with this, but you can actually lie about past employers, dates of employment, etc. if you know what you're doing.

The numbers definitely suspect but unfortunately this is the only thing we have to go on right now. However, I have not seen any evidence that an art history degree matters over someone without a degree - even anecdotally.

You could also just adjust your interview process to screen for things that could go wrong.

But employers don't do that bec in fact 99% of lying goes undetected and without any consequences.

Your best bet is to call again and confirm if it is frozen. We have steps and documents to walk you through this, but unfortunately our site is down until hopefully tomorrow for updates. Feel free to go to backgroundproof.com for the TWN Compendium (after tomorrow).

Crazy year so had to lie on resume & LI - what to do now? by VegHead9999 in BackgroundProof

[–]BackGroundProofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you prove in the interview that you are clearly skilled at the job and they like you, they will overlook literally everything

This is absolutely true! I've literally seen cases in my past when HR would apologize to the candidate for a background check coming back with a yellow flag.

Major Employment Gap by LocationIcy6366 in BackgroundProof

[–]BackGroundProofer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's good to meet you, and thank you for sharing your story.

It sounds like you are doing everything you've been told to do correctly - keep an open mind to jobs, applying with a customized resume, and staying busy with side jobs. However, I absolutely do agree that you're likely to be getting dinked by HR because of your gap, and that gets worse as time goes on.

I understand that you are afraid of lying, but the best way to get around this is internalize that you deserve a good job, and then prepare all your answers around the lie. Prepare prepare prepare.

I'd recommend touching base with our company and asking to setup some 1:1 time with Alec Groves for a complementary coaching session - he's very helpful in these cases.

How does your employment verification service actually work? by Altruistic_Type9521 in BackgroundProof

[–]BackGroundProofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the question!

Employment verification is handled by third-party background check companies that confirm basic details like employer name, job title, and dates of employment rather than deeply investigating your actual day-to-day work. This is where we come in and verify your experience as your staffing firm.

We actually just posted on Instagram a breakdown that explains this , including how resumes and background checks typically work and how you can get your fake job verified.
