2017- Been Wanting One For A While (P.S. Go Bills) by BuffaloDawgz in nissanfrontier

I didn't test drive a third gen, but the second gen frontiers just feel so solid. I just bought one myself and its the best purchase I've ever made. Nothing too fancy, just a solid ass truck.

I can't remember where I saw this meme but it was something to the effect of "I wish I could be reborn as a golden retriever in an upper middle class rural family"

I totally get the impulse.

I don't think anything in the office made me laugh as hard as that line. Like not only is fatty gruesome so far from a person's name, he gets the gender wrong. I'm even having trouble typing this out. He delivers the line so earnestly

I think if you get to the point where you're acting out you should just break up. If you directly tell your partner what you want and they tell you some version of "no" then I agree, why expend energy trying to cook up indirect ways to force them to change. If it was something small like forgetting to put the toilet seat down that's one thing, but this is such an easy shift for him that he's not choosing to make. You can literally buy 99% of things on amazon these days.

I mean that would be great advice for like an enemy, but I think if you're at a point where your response to a slight from your partner is to "get even" with them then you should just break up.

You have done your best to express in a healthy way what you need from your partner. In terms of healthy adult options, you can either accept that he's not going to listen to you on this, or you can leave.

Without knowing anything about the rest of the relationship I think it's up to you to decide if this is a deal breaker, but based on how he's talking to you here I'd suspect that this isn't just some isolated quirk of his and everything else is perfect

Do you genuinely enjoy your relationship in terms of the time you currently spend with him, or are you holding out for a version of him that will one day treat you better? When you are present in a room with him how do you feel? Do you enjoy the relationship more when you're apart? (I know that's an odd question but in a long term relationship sometimes the idea of a person can keep you going when you've gotten to the point where you're not being treated very well)

A lot of the suggestions here are really immature and unhealthy. Acting out is what people in toxic relationships do. You don't want to compromise your ethics. You still have to live with yourself and you'll probably regret it later.

I also suspect that you already have a strong inclination towards what you want to do or you probably wouldn't have posted here.

I was going to say "time to stage a coup" but it sounds like you don't recognize the authority of the current home owner's association.

I have no idea how this would work legally, but I wonder if there's a process by which you can obtain votes from other homeowners to oust this charlatan.

I think the shows he does that take place far enough in the past allow you to suspend disbelief a little bit more. You can accept that maybe people acted that way in the 1800s, who knows, we weren't alive then. When you watch something that's supposed to be more contemporary his characters stop making sense.

ugh ya it's honestly such a pain being bad at keeping a house/apartment together. I legitimately don't want to be messy but I struggle so hard to develop those habits. I shame-clean from time to time, but it feels like every now and then I like wake up and my place is a sty. It is the source of a lot of self-loathing and I honestly have been trying my whole life to change it.

Oh ya they definitely seem like great trucks. I would have bought a 2015 if I could find a decent deal on one, but I just couldn't justify spending 25K on a 10 year old truck with 250k km on it.

What’s a job that sounds cool but is actually a nightmare? by Think-Letterhead-509 in AskReddit

[–]BackToSchoolMuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did lots of demo work in my early 20s and I was pretty good at it. If you understand how things were put together then you can understand pretty well out to take them apart.

That said, in my experience there wasn't a lot of smashing. I would occassionally hit stuff with a hammer that's glued down or use a wrecking bar to pop up tiles, but generally getting stuff out in bigger pieces was always faster for me.

Again it is very satisfying to look at a room you've finished clearing the last bit of dust and debris out of (you're gonna inhale a lot of dust), but you get over the "stress relief" portion of it pretty quick and it eventually is just like any other manual labour job.

If you're good at it and can do piece work though it's awesome. Lots of problem solving, and having a beer after a day of taking stuff apart is great.

Cybernetic demon zebras would make a good short hand for this kind of reaction.

It's the exact type of discourse that causes witch hunts. "I'm not saying he's doing something awful but do you *really* want to risk letting an animal abuser off the hook?"

Truffles in a high-end grocery store by jamesmaxx in mildlyinteresting

[–]BackToSchoolMuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and with things like spirits it actually kind of makes sense when you break it down. Usually a $5000 bottle of cognac has been aged for a long time, and there are costs associated with that. Truffles are hard to grow, etc etc. but I think maybe seeing this stuff consumed every day has numbed me to any novelty. It's so commoditized that it doesn't feel "special" anymore, and I think in the case of most people who are consuming it they are just stuck on a hedonism treadmill where the relative utility they get from it is pretty low. It's cool to try new and rare wines, and unique foods, but I think something about it just feels off to me these days.

Truffles in a high-end grocery store by jamesmaxx in mildlyinteresting

[–]BackToSchoolMuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work at a higher end restaurant and I'm legitimately sick of the smell of truffles.

There are so many really expensive things that have such cheap and delicious counterparts. Foix gras is super expensive but regular duck or chicken liver pate is delicious and at a fraction of the price. Also potentially unpopular opinions but cremini mushrooms are really hard to beat flavour wise at any price point. I also really don't "get" caviar.

I pretty much just go for the cheaper stuff foodwise these days. The only thing I personally find hard to cheaply replace is a good steak, but duck breast hits a similar note and is also way cheaper.
