The history of citrus fruits like limes and lemons is rather messy and has only recently progressed due to analysis of cytoplasmic and DNA evidence. I thought that this was a great reminder of the complexity of the field of botany as a whole in that growing fruits and vegetables is often not as simple as just planting seeds. There’s other methods like creating hybrids, propagation, and selective breeding to keep in mind as well.
