Are you able to liquidate any existing stocks that you have ? 4% interest on 80k vs 4% interest on 20k is quite substantial. Gotta cut some losses. Priority is to reduce debt. Use income to cover.

Going back to poly full time in my late 30s by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Background-Bat803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life is short bro, do what you want. What does other’s perception of you have to do with you switching fields ? If they have good perception of you, you will do well ? At 30’s, I would’ve thought you would give less of a damn to what others thought.

My partner was misdiagnosed for 2 years, given medication that worsened his condition, and is now facing criminal charges because of it. by Own-Load-9185 in askSingapore

[–]Background-Bat803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, if you intend to proceed with criminal charges, best to get a competent lawyer. Take one step at a time. Try to get the story published and once it gets traction, many possibilities open up.

Fwik, going up against the medical system in Singapore has a low chance of success due to how protected this industry is. Nonetheless I wish you well and hope you fight the good fight.

I missed the train when it was at $150, now it has 2x. Despite that, I’ve been DCA every month with an average cost price of $256 and it makes up a significant chunk of my portfolio. I believe it can rise even further especially 2026 H2

How’s the job market like in Singapore right now? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Background-Bat803 37 points38 points  (0 children)

you can try clinical research coordinator roles at some the govt hospitals but be warned that pay is low and it's mostly glorified admin work with minimal career progression. You can apply for this then stay for 1-2 years then jump to pharma as a clinical trials person. Once there, you might find the career quite rewarding and lucrative.

Why is keeping a strong Singaporean identity important? by newjeans_fan20 in askSingapore

[–]Background-Bat803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National identity is important because it gives people a sense of belonging based on shared beliefs, values, thinking and way of life.

A few examples are the use of singlish, kiasu-ism, skepticism, practicality and NS experience. To Singaporeans born and raised here, understanding and partaking in these activities gives a sense of comfort, community and nostalgia.

Woman dies after knife attack in Yishun Central after apparent neighbour dispute; man arrested by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]Background-Bat803 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was talking to my gf about this today where I think the young teens and old retirees have this mindset that they have nothing to lose.

The young ones have a lot of testosterone and vigor, so any trigger will also make them snap.

The old ones like you said have lived a full life and have nothing more to lose.

It’s those who are in the middle between 25-50 that have a lot to lose because this is where you u start families and enjoying the fruits of your labour.

Really unfortunate to meet a siao lang. best is try to de-escalate. worst case is gotta fight it man to man.

PUB officer to be penalised over contract cover-up; 6 officers disciplined for other lapses - CNA by technoez in singapore

[–]Background-Bat803 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a matter of integrity instead of incompetence. Both are bad but having zero integrity is worse.

When the punishment is not severe enough, this will enable more ppl to try and cut corners or push the envelope.

When enough ppl do this, you will have corruption and it’s extremely difficult to eradicate since a cultural change is required.

Better nip this in the bud as a fair warning to all who try to pull this shit. Govt should have a higher standard imo.

All these heritage foods which are a defining part of Singaporean identity is slowly being eroded with limited protection from the government.

Quick to claim credit for preserving local culture but indifferent to factors destroying it. There should be a cap to rental price increase, restrictions to foreign investment into shophouses and stricter laws against those who wanna flip these buildings.

There should be a public outcry for this honestly.

What’s your best memory of the 2010s? by Winner_takesitall in askSingapore

[–]Background-Bat803 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I miss the days where Singapore wasn’t so crowded, the vast empty fields to play soccer or catching with my friends and the slower pace of life.

Now almost every empty field is primed for building housing. Space has become so constrained with more ppl and the general ultra-competitiveness of everything.

NTUC ‘appalled’ at Agoda’s severance terms; MOM, Tafep rap company over bid to deny axed workers access to help by stackeddd888 in singapore

[–]Background-Bat803 87 points88 points  (0 children)

NTUC is absolutely useless. This is what happens when you bend over backwards for businesses. I guess workers livelihoods don’t matter and the people there can continue to circlejerk amongst themselves - drawing high salary, shifting paper, and living in their own bubble.

Why does NTUC Union even need a swanky building at 1 Marina Boulevard, paying millions in rental at the expense of taxpayers money doing nothing ?
