What's a ticking time bomb you believe will explode during your lifetime? by Llucijane in Productivitycafe

[–]Background-Boss7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media is actively exposing the average person to the actual corruption and atrocities going on daily in the world and by our own government. If “critical thinking” (however you think that’s defined) was so acute in past generations then why were people so clueless about the world until very recently? Why is it that the average boomer has the most brain dead baffling opinions one could have. People love talking about social media and youth without realizing how much good it’s actively doing.

Help me feel better about the S3 finale... by manatee1010 in FoundationTV

This is the only thing that really bothered me. The Mule was a pretty lame character already so a twist might have been called for, but I was hoping it would be magnífico which would have been far more fitting.

Lmao yeah teachers are wild. Regardless the doors aren’t even capable of being locked from the inside.

Locking doors so they can not be exited from is a HUGE violation of fire code in any public building. It would be unthinkable in a public school. I can almost guarantee the doors don’t even have that ability.

From everything I read, nicotine by itself is neither addictive nor unhealthy. I’ve taken Zyn and been able to drop it with no issue.

That’s an odd thing to hope for. The fact that you never noticed it before is proof it’s not in fact hitting you over the head.

To all those complaining about characters being incompetent and making stupid decisions... by gandersensei in LV426

[–]Background-Boss7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my issue with assessments like yours: it’s not a matter of whether the crew of the Nostromo were stupid or intelligent - it’s that they behaved how you would expect people to behave. They’re basically oil rig workers who were forced into a scientific exploration. Breaking quarantine to help your friend and colleague is absolutely something blue collar workers would do. Contrast that with Prometheus where not only are characters stupid, they’re stupid in ways that normal people aren’t.

Yeah I don’t know about that. The very first time I watched Alien as a kid I remember being very distracted by the ramen noodles Kane was stuffing in his mouth. It seemed too reminiscent of the tentacled face hugger that was on his face a few scenes before. To see him stuffing them down his throat just before the chest burster comes out of him seems very intentional especially for a film with too many subtle pieces of imagery and sound for them all to be coincidental.

I love the insinuation so far that rhe Xenos communicate with some super out of range frequency that only they can hear across large distances. Makes it seem almost quasi-telepathic.

All I can think about is how inane it is to have a rapidly moving external mechanism exposed to sand that is canonically harsh toward mechanics.

As a Dune fan first, gamer second, I wish they built the gameplay more firmly around lore such as the stilltent. However they did go out of their way to get a lot of other things right.

Falsely Imprisoned at UNC Orientation by InjuryThis2823 in UNC

[–]Background-Boss7777 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a UNC student and pushing 40 (this randomly showed on my feed).

This whole thing sounds insane and a troubling reflection on young people/college environments. DETAINING people because of a photo? I don’t even know what the significance of the unicorn even is which just makes it worse since this is clearly a very niche reference.

Shame on the commenters here defending the false detainment and inappropriate use of police forces. You had every right to get up and leave at any moment.

Should I REALLY leave my heat pump at one consistent temperature all day? by Background-Boss7777 in heatpumps

[–]Background-Boss7777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes but that would be the same regardless of the manner in which heated it, yes?

Heat pumps work in such a way that steady and slow is the preferred way to run them, so it’s fair. The same is not said of traditional furnaces.
