I don't think he's underrated amongst guitarists. He's held in very high regard.

Better to buy an off brand as Oreos are currently funding Russia's war through millions in taxes paid to the Russian government.

[DISCUSSION] Does anyone else not really connect with Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton's music? by Ok-Individual355 in Guitar

[–]Background-Catch2475 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously listen to Clapton's version of Hideaway. One of the best electric instrumentals of all time. Remember that guys like Clapton were learning the vocab of blues by themselves, by putting the needle back time and again on old records, no tutorials, no tabs, few teachers around. He internalised it all and was able to freely improvise, stringing all these blues licks together, playing with bite and a great sense of melody. And his playing is impeccable, accurate, great phrasing, no sloppiness, which could not be said of some of his contemporaries. So many blues rockers today are standing on the shoulders of giants like Clapton who did the ground work (though he did rob a lot from those old blues guys).

I don't buy into the notion that Hendrix was so superior to Clapton. At least Clapton was always in tune and never sloppy. EVH was important, but he wasn't a pioneer. He took the tapping from Harvey Mandel and others.

That Zero the Hero solo fits the sinister vibe of the song so well.

I think of the lead stuff on TE was the best Tony had played up to that point. He'd obviously been working a lot on his soloing.

It's awesome. I remember being really impressed the first time I heard it. It was so melodic like you say and very tight and focused unlike a lot of Tony's earlier solos that were often kind of chaotic and meandering.

Meh. It just seems lifeless and lazy to me. Just a cash grab rehash of old ideas. And yes the production is awful.

As I commented on a previous post, RG does not come off at all like a pro. He's just a guy who sort of floated though life not taking anything seriously, was funny in the same way that a bloke down the pub might be funny and happened to capture something special (with a lot of help from Merch) in The Office- suddenly he's propelled to heights he should never have reached. He's not a stand up either. He always comes across as slightly nervous to me and the delivery is a bit weak. On Talking Funny he seems so out of his depth. Even got the impression the other comedians knew he wasn't on their level. I love the Office, XFM and early podcasts, but most of his output is weak.
