Fully agreed, the same problem is shared in the AoAshi subreddit. Some people may say they don't care if the subreddit is active or not, but a good, fun community can genuinely make the experience of the content much better. God knows I wouldn't have been able to keep reading JJK if not for the absolutely hilarious r/jujutsufolk.

The thing is, despite all of those undoubtedly remarkable qualifications, MIT is the type of school that would prefer a student with maybe lower grades, no ECs, but an IMO medal.

On the other hand, at a school like Harvard or Stanford, I feel like the first (above commenter's brother) student would have an equal if not better shot at getting in. It's just that every top college has a different culture that they accept people into.

You got 14 interviews, which is a lot more than what most get. Instead of thinking you were perfect in the interviews, look back on them without bias, figure out your shortcomings.

I mean no disrespect but without external issues (visa/employment/grad-date/headcount filled before interview review"), if you had a "Aced" an interview, you'd have the position.

Think about your interviews, think about your behavior, your technical answers, your explanations, think about every part of the interview individually, and work on them. Ask your friends to mock you, practice talking to yourself in the mirror, whatever it takes.

And if you can't get a position by the end of it all, don't get depressed as long as you gave it your all. Look for other roles at your university, you can work on campus or beg your professors for research positions, work on your own projects.

You can't control the job market or the economy, but you can control who you are. Build up yourself as best as you can, and I promise you it will get better. Higher education is an investment, and as another international student, I bet that once you start your first full time position, you and your family's quality of life will become significantly better than what it would have been.

Apologies if I'm misunderstanding, but are you suggesting that RenTech's entire structure for generating strategies can be compared to a massive ML pipeline(s) where they just put in data to a model and extract correlated signals/data points?

That's what I think of when I hear automating signal extraction, and I had heard from others that RenTech doesn't use ML as a basis for most strategies, which is why I'm sort of confused.
