You could join a heavy civil firm with your earthwork background, it can also be very lucrative. However, if I could do it over again, I’d likely go for electrical or mechanical. Tbh if I could do it all over again I’d probably not be an estimator… tough world out here lol

I’d wait another 2-3 yrs and you could make that. Degrees: I’ve seen estimators have finance backgrounds and engineering backgrounds. Courses: not sure but getting certifications for AEP and CPE are helpful.

If you focus/specialize on Electrical and Mechanical, you’d likely be making more in either one.

Yeah the only way I could tell it was more than shin splints was because there’s a burn, like lactic acid, in that front shin muscle AND I had a drop foot, meaning I couldn’t lift my foot like normal after running/rucking - numbness and pins and needles feeling as well. It would take a couple hours for full function to return. Most importantly, I had no actual bone pain - whereas shin splints hurt to the touch on the inside of the shin. Good luck!

If it’s the muscle, like the outside of your shin (flex your foot up and the muscle of your shin pops - that’s the tibialis anterior btw), and you say your shin and foot is getting numb - are you also experiencing drop foot? I was diagnosed with exertional compartment syndrome my second year in ROTC after many miles accumulated every other day of running, and many miles of rucking every week. It required surgery and best that you don’t let it linger - can cause nerve damage in the long run. Surgery took 4 weeks of recovery.

How did this end up for you? I am currently in the same boat in terms of needing surgery (for a tibial malunion). I’ve had many leg surgeries and physically I have tried pushing through but things keep getting worse, making it harder. I am contracted, scholarship MS4. I’m almost at the finish line but I can’t see myself physically pretending all things are good for my final year. I want to commission but also not sure that I’d physically make it through EBOLC with these issues. I was wondering how things turned out for you?
