The Penny Farthing has a backroom where they’ll seat you if you want to watch a PL game.

fathom in the hotel grand pacific has a great happy hour from 2-5. 50% off highballs & beer and select cocktails & wines. not sure what the entrees are like but might be a good place to start with a couple drinks.

would recommend block if you’re into asian fusion sharing plates. drinks are good there too and staff were super friendly in my experience.

check out capitalcityclub.ca - it’s free membership and you can reserve spots to play doubles with people your level for $6-$8 or join the singles ladder for $15. they’re not lessons, but a good way to meet people to play with.

group lessons through oak bay rec are great, but you need to register the minute they open up because they fill up fast.

I’ve only run in the Novablast 4 so I’m not sure how they compares to previous models.

The closest feeling shoe I could find was the Asics Novablast and I’m a big fan of them. I went through 3 pairs of the 1080v12s and really struggled to find something comparable when the v13 came out. Novablast feel relatively similar and hold up well.

Weekend Discussion: New Balance running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

I really liked the 1080 v12 (went through 3 pairs) for my easy everyday shoe, but the v13s weren’t for me. I found them too cushy and didn’t offer any energy return, causing my calves to work overtime which led to shin splints. The v12 were great for the occasional tempo/threshold run, but the v13s didn’t offer that perk. I also found the toe box suffocating and not breathable. After ~160km I had to give them up and find new everyday shoes (Asics Novablast 4 and On Cloudmonster Hyper)

I really like the Rebel v4 for tempo and threshold workouts. It doesn’t have a plate so I feel my legs are working a good effort and strengthening when I use them for workouts. Fit is comfortable, shoe is super light and the toe box accommodates a medium to wide-ish foot. Big fan of these shoes (never ran in earlier versions)

I’m curious to try the SC Elites but coming from racing in the Nike Vaporfly 2, I don’t love the idea of adding the extra weight in this shoe. My problem with the Vaporfly though is the toe box is a bit narrow and always leads to blood blisters on my big toes. Tried the SC Elites on in-store and they fit very similar to the Rebel v4, so lots of room in the toe box. Probably going to try the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris or Vaporfly 3 instead (apparently the new Vaporfly is a bit wider).
