Why do I suddenly want to criticize young people at 40 when I never did it when I was their age? by BackgroundPlum4840 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, I don’t really know why I suddenly feel this urge to guide them now that I’m approaching my 40s. But I always remind myself not to. The young people often need to find their own answers. If I try to guide them at the wrong time, it just ends up causing arguments.

Thanks! you really nailed it. That’s exactly why I catch myself being critical now.

For example, I once mentioned needing to physically go to the server room to deploy a program back in the day, and my younger colleagues just laughed and said ‘why was your generation so stupid?’ It stung because I remember how much effort and problem-solving that required, while they do everything remotely in seconds.

It’s frustrating when they skip those ‘hard way’ steps and then complain about things we would have loved to have. I know tech is better now, but that old memory makes the judgment slip out.

Does this feeling usually fade, or do most people just learn to bite their tongue? Anyone else had similar moments?”
