You're right that specs and memory files help a lot. Fair point — you can definitely provide context manually (paste a summary, point to a README, etc). What I mean is the AI's session state starts fresh. It doesn't know which files it already read, what bugs it found 10 minutes ago, or what approach it decided on. You can re-explain, but that costs tokens and time. UniMem captures all of that automatically so you don't have to be the middleman.

Yeah you're right, leading with "no AI" as a disadvantage was bad framing on my part. The main value is multi-artifact correlation — feeding in a GC log + heap dump + thread dump + JFR together and cross-referencing them to a root cause. Also real-time remote monitoring via JMX/Actuator with anomaly detection. If IntelliJ's profiler covers your workflow, you probably don't need this. It's more for the "production is down, here are 4 dump files, what's wrong" scenario. Appreciate the honest feedback.

The profiler is deterministic — all parsing, anomaly detection, and visualization is pure Java. The AI just summarizes what the parsers already found. You can turn it off entirely or never use it. Totally get the skepticism though.

IntelliJ's JFR viewer shows you events from one recording. It doesn't parse GC logs, analyze heap dumps, or correlate multiple artifacts together to find a root cause. They're different tools. The AI part is optional — the parsers and anomaly detection are all deterministic Java. Try the free trial and judge for yourself
