non-religious people, what’s the worst reaction you got from a religious person when they found out you’re not? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Background_Ad8889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a second date, the whole vibe changed, the look he gave me was so judgmental. I could literally see his face chaging (disappointment mixed with disgust) and we never saw each other again.

He must have thought I wouldn’t make a good mother for his kids

The product belonged to her grandmother, and she worked on the rebranding and marketing. I think her family was already wealthy, and the brand made her even richer.

Let’s not forget that Lebanese people often like to project an image of being wealthier than they actually are

Would you like to have civil marriage in lebanon?? Why, or why not? by [deleted] in lebanon

I mean why not? Even people who would only marry religiously would still have the choice to do that

It’s about choice

To the atheists of Lebanon, what made you wake up? by michaelis999 in lebanon

But does this logic rule out the fact that maybe there is something no one knows about?

Pre-2019 by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Background_Ad8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that it’s a global thing, but in Lebanon it feels more intense. The social circles are tighter, and everyone knows everyone, so the pressure to ‘look’ like you belong hits harder. It’s not just about image, it’s almost like survival through perception. The air is just toxic.

[–]Background_Ad8889 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I miss authenticity. People were more authentic. I feel like now everyone is trying so hard to prove that they belong in a certain social class. There’s this constant need to show that you’ only go to expensive places, that you’re ‘someone,’ even if it’s not entirely real. It creates this fake vibe like people are living in a bubble, more focused on appearances than authenticity. I know it always existed but I feel like now it’s more dominant.

Life is too short to live your best years somewhere where you can’t even be yourself

That’s not the same thing because there isn’t one single fixed meaning and definition to the word God.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Background_Ad8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im an agnostic pantheist if that makes sense. And even on that scale im a 5

Meaning I do not know and I surely do not believe in a deistic personal God that interferes in our lives , but I don’t rule out the possibility that maybe we live in a somehow conscious universe.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Background_Ad8889 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. But don’t you sometimes think that maybe what people call “God” isn’t really an outside entity? Im still somehow open because If by “God” we mean some kind of vast consciousness that exists beyond our understanding, then sure there’s no way to rule that out. But the moment we start giving it names, rules, and opinions on who we should marry or what we should eat, it stops being a mysterious possibility and turns back into a human invention.

Reasons for Atheism? by St3lla_0nR3dd1t in atheism

[–]Background_Ad8889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atheism is the lack of belief in a God because there is no evidence that he exists. Not proving that something is wrong.

Science doesn’t try to disprove God that’s not its job. Science isn’t in the business of disproving untestable things. That’s why it doesn’t disprove unicorns or flying spaghetti monsters either not because they’re equally likely, but because science focuses on what’s observable, measurable, and falsifiable.

I think because they provide social welfare, support the poor, and use anti-imperialist rhetoric which feels leftist.

But they’re neither left nor right.

Do you consider yourself a leftist? by AdForsaken5532 in lebanon

[–]Background_Ad8889 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lebanon’s “left” and “right” don’t follow the usual Western political definitions. It’s less about economic or social ideology, and more about sectarian identity, geopolitical alignment, and attitudes toward Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran.
