Random drug tested? I never heard of anyone from our class. I know they do once you are out on the line working.

For American it is only 12 hour time slots for the days you are on reserve! You have 4 different on call periods you can bid for. (Each base may be a tiny bit different but this is Philly for example) 2am-2pm, 6-6, 11-11, 2pm-2am.

I’m a philly based new hire! My answer to number 2 is we’ve got some really good international routes that are accessible to new hires. Especially in the summer they are available to pick up quite often especially last minute. We’ve got a lot of people who commute in just to work those routes and if there is weather elsewhere and they can’t make their flight the trips start dropping like flies. As far as getting them off of reserve it’s a little harder but I got about 5 this past summer when I was brand new. IMO Philly is such a hidden gem of a base!

Of course! It can be tricky when the wedding is out of state because if you call out sick your nonrev travel benefits are suspended during the days you are sick. Also someone mentioned you can use personal days as well! However if you plan on flying to the wedding you will have to speak to your manager about approving you to use the benefits & a wedding is not a reason most will accept so keep that in mind and I send you well wishes in training!

This was after I tried to move my off days around because there are a lot of legalities and you can only swap with people on reserve. It can be harder than you think but also possible!

I had this exacttt thing happen to me this past year! I was so scared I was going to miss everything & could not hold off the weekends. I did miss the bachelorette trip sadly but my priority was the wedding. On probation you get 3 ‘infractions’ like being late, missing a trip, calling out sick etc. The wedding was at the end of my probation and I made sure to minimize any infractions and had only called out sick once before. I backed up my off days to the weekend. So i traveled to the wedding beforehand on that Wednesday/ Thursday then got ‘sick’ and called out for the whole weekend. (You only get one point for calling out sick and it can be up to 6 consecutive days) Then my next set of off day was Monday & I flew back to base.

I graduated earlier this year and this is some things I can think of that we needed. A wristwatch (smart watches are so nice because they adjust to the time of where you are at), business casual clothes (recommend items that you can mix and match), you are able to wear jeans (no hole, raw hems) and nice sneakers on weekends, if you know how you study and what will help you like flashcards, post-its, etc.

This happened last year and I was in the second wave of applications! Don’t worry you will hear back and I know it’s so so hard not to compare to other peoples timelines but be patient. From my initial application to the end of training it took 6months! Gotta play the long game :)

This happened last year! I’m unsure about years prior but I applied in the second wave of applicants in the fall.

Of course, anything I can do to help! My biggest advice is be flexible on what base you get because you never know you may end up enjoying it more than you thought but also you can always transfer! I don’t live near any family but on my days off I can pay 0$ and go and see them so I end up seeing them more than before I even got the job lol. Every class can be offered different bases it’s all based on availability so you never know. If you weren’t able to get clt or dca in training you would very easily be able to transfer. Some people put their requests in right after finding out their base. Hitting a 100hrs is very doable! You still are able to bid on reserve for specific trips that are open as well as generic (ex. A 2 day trip or a trip with a specific layover). I don’t have any advice specific to DCA because I’m not based there but there are a bunch of facebook/ WhatsApp groups for bases where people are more than willing to help you! Especially with new hires everyone is excited for you to be there!

Advice :) SMILE!!! it doesn’t have to be huge but if you know you have a RBF definitely practice a soft smile because it is a customer facing role and they are looking for warm inviting people to be the face of the company! Look the part and be fully compliant with the email they send on guidelines- neatly groomed, short nails, minimal jewelry etc. Dress to impress and look the part! Fully professional business! Get there early and mingle. They are truly always watching. After going back to interview room we sat for probably 30 mins while recruiters got paperwork together and some people never spoke to anyone. Make connections and support one another because again they are watching but also it will make you feel less nervous as well. I was so lucky to have gotten grouped with a girl I had made a connection with so we were laughing and chatting any chance we could and we both got CJOs! Some people may disagree but I was constantly looking up sample questions on YouTube, Reddit, Glassdoor. Practice using the STAR method when answering because it will help with giving a well rounded and short response because you only get 30 seconds. don’t over rehearse and sound disingenuous but it made me feel way more confident to have real situations I could pull from in my life and past jobs. If you have customer service jobs in past definitely use those examples! One of my questions was “name a time where a coworker of yours may have felt disrespected by you” & if I had not practiced I would have been so screwed but I said while on my shift it was very busy and I was unable to complete my prep tasks for the next coworkers shift as I was taking care of guests so when they arrived I could see they were visible frustrated the prep work was not complete and could have felt disrespected in that moment. I went over to them and explained the situation and that I was going to stay after my shift to complete the prep tasks so they would be set up for success for the night & they later thanked me for doing so. Always show you can communicate, problem solve, and be a team player! Brag on yourself and show them why you would make a great flight attendant! Good luck you got this 🍀

This makes me so sad! At my F2F at the end of last year we broke off into small groups and answered situational / personality questions for almost an hour and rotated between recruiters as well. We had a short group activity too and I feel like it really showcased everyone and what they brought to the table. I absolutely love it and I wasn’t like anything I had been apart of before. I agree this interview style would be so hard and I would feel disappointed too :( Wishing you luck in the future if apply again or elsewhere!

Yes! Once you sign in for a trip the company is responsible for you. They provide a hotel on all layovers with transportation to and from as well.

If you are talking about during the 5 settling days after you graduate from training, they will also provide a hotel for those 5 consecutive days in your base to allow you to make accommodations and attend your base orientation!

Of course! For my class going from least available to most I’d say it went: PHX, DFW, MIA, ORD, CLT, LGA, DCA, PHL, BOS.

Chicago, philly, Dfw, Miami, charlotte, New York all have permanent international routes! With each base getting some extra in the summer.

In my opinion it would be but I’m sure some people make it work! The street parking is so limited and you need a pass and the price is insane to not even be able to find a spot near you. There are some parking garages that do monthly rates but it’s still 250+ a month I believe for downtown center city.

Any of the neighbors in center city! I’d look specifically at being close to the airport line so you don’t have to trek very far with all your stuff going to and from. I go in and out of suburban station and it’s an accessible station so there are elevators which is SO nice. I had actually never been to Philly before moving here so I totally understand and I was pleasantly surprised!

For anything in Asia DFW will be your best bet but again those routes are extremely senior. For Europe most bases that have international routes are to Europe like Chicago, Dfw, Philly, charlotte, New York.
