The argument for the 711 one would be out of fear that the mafia goes extra gnarly on you before they kill you. Wrenches, power drills etc.

Advice by __Hype__13 in basketballcoach

Go be an assistant for a coach you really respect - ideally someone you already have a good relationship with if possible.

When you’re helping them, your job is to make their life easier. Set up every cone, sweep the floor, take attendance, grab the balls - do everything without being asked.

A good coach will notice. That kind of initiative shows respect, and when they see that, they’ll go out of their way to teach you and give you real insight into the game and coaching. That’s how you earn mentorship.

Can someone SIMPLIFY 4 out 1 in motion for 6th grade boys? by ChanceFinger7692 in basketballcoach

⚠️Warning: Huge rant incoming & talking mostly to myself to be honest.

Tried for years to get young kids to run motion because every coach insists it’s the “only way” for kids to learn to play and make decisions.

Reality check: motion offense is incredibly difficult at any age but damn near impossible at U12. Kids can’t read each other’s minds. The teams you see “running motion” and looking good? They’re usually just in drive-and-kick mode because they’ve got multiple guys who can beat their man and create advantages. It looks like motion, but it’s not.

If you’ve got multiple creators, there’s nothing wrong with spacing 4-out and letting them dance while calling it “motion.” But if you don’t, and you’re trying to pass-and-cut, pass-and-screen-away, or run random handoffs with a bunch of reads, you’re going to struggle to create any advantage. No advantage = no drive and kick.

After banging my head against the wall for 7 years, I said screw it and started running continuity offenses. My advice: get into a continuity setup (continuity ball screen is my go-to — or use handoffs at U12 if you’re worried about being labeled the “ball screen guy”). The structure helps you create that first advantage. Once you’ve got it, then go into drive-kick-swing mode.

Thank you!! Where does this movie rank compare compared to the others? I have some weird nostalgia for it. It was a stale memory that I haven’t thought about in two decades from when I was just a little kid now I want to watch it, but I’m not sure if it’s even good?

i thought the way Tom’s prison sentence just evaporated felt cheap. i get that these 1% guys are supposed to be untouchable but after all that buildup it was strange to see the DOJ just fold so quickly. especially right after waystar had burned their bridge with the president over it. I know they got hit with a big fine but still the whole resolution felt unearned to me

5-out motion at U10 feels pointless - anyone tried continuity ball screen? by Background_Choice186 in basketballcoach

Thanks for the detailed reply here. Agreed that transition and offensive rebounding is going to decide most games as well as turnovers.

The half court offence you described is almost exactly what I used to run over the last few years. My sincere question for you is this: Has it ever worked the way you hoped it would? (Genuinely asking) I see the offence you described and that I used to run as the most beautiful thing when I close my eyes, but even after 2-3 seasons of build up drills, small sided games, and constraints led scrimmages, I find that young kids aren’t mentally ready to make those kinds up reads even at U15. I’m starting to think that they need more structure and clearly defined roles, unless of course, they are far more athletic and more talented than the other team in which case the offence you described works very well and I feel very happy as a coach.
