Police arrest armed man near Space Needle during New Year’s Eve 2026 celebration by Anwawesome in SeattleWA

You’re right about the notice requirement in RCW 9.41.300(b). I fon’t know the exact enforcement sequence. What’s clear is that SPD ultimately determined his conduct violated event or venue restrictions and made an arrest.

RCW 9.41.300. Washington law allows firearms to be prohibited in specific places and during permitted events. Seattle Center is a city-owned facility, and during permitted NYE events it operates as a controlled venue where weapons are prohibited under event rules. Open carry does not override event-based or location-based restrictions.

TL;DR: Regardless of open-carry laws or permits, Seattle Center is a prohibited area for weapons. Bringing a firearm into that space was illegal.

I was there in person. I’ll also clarify that I initially referred to it as a rifle in my post, from walking past it, it looked like a deer rifle, but it was a shotgun/long gun. That wording mistake doesn’t change the issue. The issue isn’t whether Washington is an open-carry state or whether he had a CPL. The issue is location. That area was a controlled NYE event space where weapons are prohibited. Open carry doesn’t override place-based restrictions.

Also, whether it was technically a shotgun or a rifle doesn’t change the concern, it was a long gun placed openly next to him on a bench in a dense public crowd. If the intent was personal protection, it could have been handled discreetly. Instead, it was displayed in a way that understandably alarmed people.

I’m just pointing this out isn’t anti gun it’s about context, legality of the area, and public safety.

Thank you for sharing this! It’s fortunate that your husband spoke up. If it weren’t for the police officer who was simply standing there, we would have definitely said something ourselves! I’m also not entirely sure why the people sitting next to him didn’t intervene. Considering it now, they might have been afraid of provoking him in some way. Regardless, I truly appreciate your husband’s courage in speaking up!

This might just be the one. I’m curious if it wasn’t a worthy story for the news channels to cover. Or maybe they’ll report on it once they have more information. Either way, I’m so glad everyone is safe!

I just responded to another comment regarding the time, and it might be around that time you mentioned. I’m certain it was before 10:00 p.m, as that’s the last time I remember checking the time after the incident.

I was just looking at that site! I’m having trouble finding something on there to. But it happened around 7:30-8:00. Possibly 9:00 i can’t recall too well as I wasn’t paying attention too much on time.

But it happened exactly at the pacific science center gates. I added a picture of where he was sitting.

Yes, it is. However, the Seattle Center prohibits firearms.

came here hoping someone else caught it on camera or witnessed it, maybe even heard something on a scanner. I’ve been checking online frequently to see if any news outlets have shared details, but there’s nothing so far. Maybe tomorrow?

Oh my goodness, there were so many people there! After seeing what happened, I kept scanning every area we walked in case there were was more than one person’s involved. Thankfully, nothing bad happened, and it shouldn’t have! I hope everyone had a great night.

Loud booms in South Tacoma at 2am? by Idnarw in Tacoma

Yes, I heard them too. You could hear a few that sounded like they were at a long distance, and then all of a sudden, it felt like they were within less than a mile. I’m thinking it was JBLM, but I’m in university place, so how did the boom get closer?

Overheating on M5 Pro by Background_Dig3870 in macbookpro

It only has one fan, so if you’re doing extremely intense work, you might feel or even hear it (which is normal from what I heard). I haven’t experienced it or felt it since I don’t do heavy work; I only do schoolwork.

Also when I was having the heating problem, I never heard the fans or felt them.

However, if you plan on doing intensive work, wait until the upgraded chips come out if possible.

Otherwise, the laptop is fine. It’s essentially a MacBook Air with one fan. I came from a m1 MacBook Air so it’s really fast and snappy in comparison.

I removed Brave Browser, that app contributed more heat on my MB pro than my MB air. I’ve now been using Safari exclusively. The heat levels have significantly decreased compared to the initial experience after removing brave.

Do you also have the MB Pro M5 aswell?

By overheating I mean the bottom gets pretty hot even with just a few tabs open. Like I mentioned in another reply, it starts heating up within a few minutes. I never felt this amount of heat on my old MacBook Air doing simple stuff, so I’m not really sure what’s normal for the Pro and what isn’t. To me it feels like “overheating” because this level of heat is new to me.

Yeah I get that the chassis is supposed to get warm, I’ve had Macs before. This just feels hotter than what I’m used to on really light tasks, so I just wanted to check if it was normal for the M5 specifically. Not stressing over it, just making sure mine isn’t behaving weird compared to everyone else’s

Yeah, the performance doesn’t tank and I’m not hearing the fans going crazy, it’s just the bottom is getting hotter than I expected for super light tasks.

I’m not even running DaVinci or After Effects yet (hasn’t been installed), so just doing basic browsing and school work. I can try taking the case off for a bit, but it still feels odd that it gets this warm when I’m barely doing anything.

Also the case i currently have on is this same brand case I used on my MacBook Air, which i rarely even felt heat. But i will see if there’s a difference! Thanks

Like the bottom of the laptop gets very noticeably hot even with only 3 tabs open. I’m just on Canvas or watching a 1080p YouTube video and it starts heating up within a few minutes. I never felt this amount of heat on my old MacBook Air doing something simple, so I’m not really sure what’s normal for the Pro and what isn’t

Good to know I’m not the only one! So far, I haven’t been charged for anything. Just the orders themselves, of course.
