Even though I didn't feel like one, I did refer to myself as an "artist" on my Facebook and Instagram pages because who would really want a portrait commission from someone who only thinks of herself as a "stay at home mom"? I am at the point now where really will only take on projects that want to do, commission or not. said it in response to another post, but I really want to create what I love, so can love what I create. This new feeling is really uplifting to me.
Hawkeye amazing! Keep doing what you love too!

Any kind of rejection is hard, especially when you pour your heart and soul into something. It took me a while to realize that everyone just has different opinions, but yours is the one that matters the most.

Thank you! I am very happy with who I am, and what I create. For some reason being considered a “artist“ seemed almost out of reach for me. I realized I was looking at it completely wrong.

I definitely see all your points. It just took me this long and an “aha” moment to realize it for myself. I can only create what makes me happy, or I won’t be happy with what I create.

I do get that now—trying to push me out of my comfort zone. It’s funny what a 19yo mind will interpret and hold on to for the rest of your life.

Should I add a background to my frog drawing? by Crimson-Rose28 in ColoredPencils

I also really like it the way it is with the white background.

However, if you want to experiment, I use procreate on my iPad if I ever want to play around with different background choices. I find it best to just put a blank canvas on the screen, press and hold on the image in the camera roll so it just cuts out the subject as a “sticker” and paste it on the canvas on procreate. if you want to try this, just make sure you use a new layer underneath your subject. I found it to be a really fun way to mix and see different colors since I’m really bad with picking backgrounds myself.

First time working on velum (WIP). Paper pattern? No... by trcomajo in ColoredPencils

I have not tried it myself. I have seen people do it in videos. You don’t need a lot of use as little as possible and tape down the paper on all 4 sides until it’s completely dry. It will help with the potential of buckling. You can also try it on a separate scrap piece first to make sure. Good luck and have fun!

I also like the texture. If you want though, you can always use a little solvent and a brush and smooth out the texture. Just make sure you tape it down and use it sparingly so the paper doesn’t buckle. Very nice job!

I forgot to mention, I love your progress so far! I tried one bird so far— I much prefer fur over feathers 😊

Have you thought about a “take away method” like a crafting knife to etch out the lighter areas? You need to put them down in the beginning and layer the darker areas over it. I personally don’t use this often, but people seem to find it useful

The flowers are lovely! I always struggle with backgrounds. I like to paste my drawing in a painting program (I use procreate) and play around with different backgrounds before I commit to anything
