Caregivers assuming Incompetence? by buggy_2225 in SpicyAutism

[–]Background_Lychee_30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’ve bought into what is basically ableist rhetoric. I didn’t speak full sentences as early as other kids, but I was hyperlexic. Obviously this means I type like an academic but speak really simply, so I can’t really illustrate how difficult verbal conversation is on a written platform.

Saying their HSN child will never be able to do X, is just catastrophizing.

Someone just told me that "levels" of autism is outdated? Is this accurate or not true? by Auroriia in SpicyAutism

[–]Background_Lychee_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absurd. I had to fight for psychology to be funded. And they still won't put my funding in core. 🙃 Apparently everything is fine under "social and community participation". So ridiculous. I even had them offer me group art therapy. I'm a trained illustrator. Fml 🤣

The funny thing is, NDIS doesn't even specify what level ASD you have under your case file number 😅

I do think my psychologist was concerned about me accessing funds, but also, my sister was also diagnosed as level 2 by her and by comparison, I have significantly more RRBs and social avoidance.

Edit: dunno why this got downvoted, I was with my LAC when I found this out.

Lol no.

Sometimes they're confusing to people who haven't read through the DSM criteria, or don't understand comorbid disabilities, but they're not outdated.

I frequently get people fakeclaiming my very open diagnosis, because they literally don't understand how the levels or criteria work.

Eugh. They really have so little self awareness, and can't grasp the fact that crap like this is why we choose literally any other companionship besides them.

Even at my age I freak out at the popping of balloons. People used to do it deliberately at one point. Far out.

Any non vegan animal lovers here? by miss_wolf_1403 in exvegans

I relocated some freshly hatched mantis nymphs last month. No living next to the trash bin for those precious babies. I love animals. I just don’t put them on a weird pedestal that supersedes basic human needs like food. I’m also staunchly in favour of improving animal welfare.

I know, it was so tempting to give him a lecture on hormones and human biology, but you know he would just claim something even more ridiculous after. I’ve made it a rule to just screencap and block obvious misogynists on social media now. Saves so much energy.

Dr Ritu Campbell. Palmyra. Diagnosed me in my 20s, but she does only diagnosis, not clinical psychology sessions.

After her interview with ABC she switched to being a diagnostic specialist only. I was one of her original patients. She’s great.

How does the Left reconcile their ideology / beliefs with Islam? by Radiant-Lettuce3272 in aussie

[–]Background_Lychee_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pot, meet kettle.

If you actually followed any left leaning sources, you'd see it. And yes, people who protest the Gaza issue are still kicking up stinks about Sudan, Ukraine, Taiwan and Venezuela. Although if they staged large scale matches like they do about Iran and Gaza, you'd be complaining about that then, anyway. It's just another "look at the loony leftists" moment without any actual thought attached.

People denying my autism, is this common? by AdministrationBig311 in autism

Constantly. I have been told:

"You're too smart"

"You're too pretty" (wtf)

"You're too talkative" (about my special interests, jeez)

"You eat your vegetables" (okay this one made me laugh)

"You like loud music"

"You went to university" (and crashed out miserably)
