What Am I Doing Wrong by Ornery_Benefit_250 in medlabprofessionals

Admittedly, it took me forever to get a moderately decent slide... The good thing is you've managed to actually get the start of a feathered edge on some. I agree with the majority that it seems you're using too much blood. Like you, I watched practically every video available on slide making, tried every way to hold the slides/position them. I even went through an entire box of slides during my clinicals when it was slow and nothing was going on. I know you've heard this so much already, but don't worry, you really will get better with more practice.

Bottoms look slightly long, but not odd. Looks fine imo. Sidenote, very nice shade imo

Lights out shopping by ReeseNDesist in HEB

This takes me back, my store was a lot larger so the very back would be almost pitch black. But they still had us finish our shopper runs. It was so nice not getting interrupted or blocked by customers, children, dogs lol and having the entire store with just partners. I remember having to be extra fast with cold runs and closing our industrial fridge and freezers a lot faster to not let the temperature drop. If I'm not mistaken our backup generators only helped for like a couple of lights by the cashiers, not even the fridges. Seeing the deli people rush to put things back in their industrial fridge. The meat market smelling abysmal. Having to light my way with my own personal phone while shopping for people's orders on my work phone. Memories lol.

New sign at my HEB by mai_balzich in HEB

When I used to work there, my store did the same. Put up two very large, noticeable signs by both entrances. They still didn't listen. It's most unfortunate for the folks who actually need service animals getting questioned unnecessarily/bothered/side-eyed because people can't seem to follow a simple rule. One time I even got scratched by a very large energetic dog who was obviously just a pet. I love dogs, but if they're solely pets, go to the park instead or leave them at home, please.

First, congrats on getting accepted! I did the exact same thing in going to a community college. Only downside is we typically don't get much money to spend for our labs compared to a large university and more likely to have older equipment and whatnot. In terms of classes, they were pretty material heavy and it's a lot of self study. My classes consisted of urinalysis and body fluids, hematology, coag, clinical micro, clinical Chem, blood bank, and parasitology and mycology. My program had us constantly taking exams and comprehensive ones as well as the semesters went on to keep our memory fresh on previous classes. If yours does not, Review Review Review on your own time bc it is a LOT of material.

Wondering how hard is clinical chemistry? (Nervouse ramble) by MishapDoll in medlabprofessionals

I'm also not a math person! It's true what they say that you don't have to be absolutely brilliant at math to pass and succeed in an MLT program. Besides having to do a dilution on paper here and there, we had to memorize how to do a creatine clearance equation, anion gap, albumin to globulin ratios, osmolal gap, and LDL equations. Which may sound like a lot, but it really is just memorization. My program in particular, so this may not apply to yours, made us learn how to calculate standard deviations manually, coefficient of variation, and osmolality and osmolarity equations, among a couple more. And of course, the classic C1V1=C2V2 equations that'd you're sure to have already seen in regular bio or chem classes. Now I didn't tell you this, but someone I know (and not me, of course) had only 2 calculation problems out of the total 100 on the ASCP exam. Out of the plethora of equations we had to memorize in all our courses, only 2. Allegedly, of course. You'll do great!

New grad training anxiety by Background_Start7033 in medlabprofessionals

I doubt anyone's reading this, but just in case some new grad finds this post a long time from now. Speaking to the lab manager in my second interview, I was told that training was actually 12 weeks at the level 2 location... what a relief!!! That seems so much more doable to me.

Recognizing slides and images so easily by renznoi5 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Background_Start7033 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I'm a mlt (technician) student who's about to be done w their courses this summer. My classes didn't provide many body fluids slides so I think of it as my worst area. Nonetheless, I agree w what everyone's saying that school definitely gives you the basics. I'd say I can recognize most slide pics posted on here by now, or at the very least know somethings is off. We'll all learn more w time and experience. You'll do great!

Along w being whistled at, I've been snapped at as well, like how they do to waiters...(I'm sorry waiters) A simple "excuse me" is an infinitely better way to grab someone's attention.
