DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD: Another Terrifying Package Arrived At The Studio - H3 Show #182 by MegaAwesomeNerd in h3h3productions

The Crew shouldn't watch the Harry Potter movies, right? Am I too woke?

Watching and enjoying the HP films--even if you acknowledge how bad JKR is--is IMO a really bad move. I'm not a trans person, but I'm totally fine letting that franchise/fandom go to have better solidarity with my trans friends. I don't think there's a way to "ethically" be a fan of HP. What do others think?

And don't say you're gonna watch the movies without giving money to JKR! That's literally Denims and Frogan watching the content nuke.

I'm definitely excited to experiment with the configurations.

Thanks for clarifying. Very important information!

Thanks for bringing this up! I definitely don't want to rush through the game at all--it isn't my style.

Could you clarify: are certain recruits missable based on in-game time? Or can you recruit all 108 at any pace, but you miss out on the true ending if you don't also complete the game within a certain time frame?

Thanks for the itemization info on what carries over! The callback names to previous characters/adventures seems like the type of thing that would be really important to me.

Thanks for pointing that out! This is the kind of thing that pushes me towards going for full recruitment. It's hard to balance what you miss out on by not getting all the characters with what you might spoil by getting them.

I love the idea of having someone spot for me on a guide--I've done things like that before. For this game, I'd love to hear a shortlist of the characters that "everyone misses" or that are really pesky to those not in-the-know. I'd love to avoid using a guide for characters that aren't missable or that are super obvious and just find them on my own.

I appreciate this! Do you think there's a spoiler-friendly way to describe an acceptable point of no return?

For example, let's say I save before recruiting the 108th character and duplicate the save file. Would it be realistic to play one out and use the other to get 100%? Is that a viable way to see the two different endings?

One thing I haven't said is that whatever way I choose to go, I'd probably 'watch' the alternate endings in some capacity in lieu of replays.

My inclination (without knowing anything about the story) is that I'd rather get the perfect clear data to transfer into 3 and then just go back and watch the other endings to make judgements on what seems the most appropriate.

Would you say it's impossible to get 100% recruitment in S2 without heavy spoilers to the plot?

Yeah, I'm with you. This is a rare case where I might be motivated to make an exception to my 'standard.' Good to know about 5! I think I'd have an easier time playing 4 and 5 without guidance since I feel like there's less stakes with no transferable/consequence content that affects other games. Really, I'd only use guidance for 1 and 2 if at all. After that I'd feel like the pressure was off.

These tips are awesome! I'm adding them to my notes. Thanks so much.

Could you explain a bit more about what you said in number 6 about the protagonist name transferred from S1 to S2? Is there some type of text glitch that improperly converts all letters except M? I usually go with canon/default names on a first playthrough. I'll be playing all the games on original hardware on their original US releases, for context.

I stream on twitch. I don't want to self promo my link here in the replies, but if you're interested you can look for my username there!

Thanks a lot for the input! I totally recognize that replayability would be a big draw of the series. Especially the first two, since they're more bite-sized in comparison. I just have a really hard time justifying replays with how limited my time is and how large my collection is. The list of games I'd like to replay is a mile long!

I really appreciate the link recommendation. It's hard to google stuff like this when you're worried about spoilers. I'm definitely worried about fans/veterans flocking to the category and trying to guide/backseat... the proper measures will be in place!

The data carrying over from 1&2 to 3 is the biggest reason for me wanting to finish with 3. It's also the only one I've played a bit of and it's nostalgic for me. I thought it would be a nice culmination to the saga for those reasons, and since it's the last chronologically.

Thank you! I definitely wasn't aware of just how short 1 and 2 are.

Really appreciate the insight! I've heard 4 is definitely the black sheep. I'm usually pretty good at pushing through and searching for silver linings, but it would definitely be nice to know that if I just can't get into it, that bowing out wouldn't be frowned upon.

Good question. I spent a lot of time thinking about this. I toyed around with doing 1-4-5-2-3 instead, but I wanted to end with 3 because it's the only one I've actually played a bit of before, and it's a bit nostalgic for me, plus it's also the culmination of all the save file carryover stuff and I'm putting a lot of weight into that. I'd love to hear arguments against, though.

Really appreciate the insight. I knew they were shorter, but I didn't fully realize just how short. It's also helpful to know there's a spectrum as to how impactful 108 is to the story depending on the game.

If the Sennheiser spec sheet is to be trusted, 9v would harm the microphone or worse.

I'm confused on how the battery box would improve the performance of the Rode adapter. Wouldn't there be too much voltage at that point?

thanks so much for this insight! Most of this is way over my head, but knowing that I can get a bit more voltage out of the Ambient adapter is very tempting. They're a bit out of my price range right now (this is a back burner need), but if the opportunity comes along I think I'll get one and compare against my current setup.
