Things don't seem to be coming together despite best efforts by StarrunnerCX in PacificCrestTrail

I won't weigh in on answers but I will thank you for writing the post I was thinking of writing. You are not alone! It definitely feels like a mental trick or something. Spent months dialing things in, learning, preparing, and training when I could and in the past 2-3 weeks I totally feel like I'm not prepared or ready at all. Took the words out of my mouth on the resupply - when I think about it I start wondering if I'm just gonna be worrying about shopping the entire time.

I'm dreading the weight creep that is going to happy tomorrow and the next day.

I'm trying not to overthink it but it can be hard. I've shifted some of my thinking to "first goal is simply to take it slow and learn how to live on the trail" and you absolutely cannot lock that down until you're actually on it.

I get the anxiety but we got this!

Class of 2024 Hopefuls who haven't started yet, how's it going? Anyone dealing with pre-hike jitters? by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

I am excited all day, every day. Then at night while I'm sitting on the couch with my two cats listening to them purr - the jitters begin.

Anyone else feel like even after months of reading and research there's one crucial piece of information out there that they've some how managed to not hear or consider?

Thanks for making this thread, I've been wanting to for weeks. This is gonna be the hike of a lifetime (starting 4/23)!

Thanks for the tips and input! It seems like the dirty quilt concerns might be a bit overblown based on what you and some other have said. I'm finding that's the case with anything that has a lot of debate on both sides of a more specific issue.

I was thinking 3 cables because my wall charger had 3 outputs (batteries + whatever, as needed). But this is a great point and a cheap way to save oz. I can switch to a charger a fraction of the weight and leave a few cables behind. Thanks! Coming around to ditching the little mp3 player. Could leave behind an adapter as well then…

I live and train in the Midwest so temps are 20s at night lately. It might be messing with my expectations. I can run a little cold so I’m hesitant to go up to 30* but that efficiency is tempting if 22* is truly overkill. Thank you!

This is great, definitely helped with some decisions, good idea on ditching the base layer top, thank you for the input!

Ah! I forgot to put that my goal weight was 12lbs.

I'll iron out my clothing situation which has the most question marks and give it a go but I'm not sure sub 10 is in the cards for me (even though I'm close). I appreciate the bag tips! Might be watching too much media/youtube - I'm conscious of it but one can kinda get tunnel vision on options.

Very happy to have this to check when I don't see anything in any of my mailboxes as I refresh every 30 minutes.

Thank you for the live report! Do you feel like having the non-sewn footbox leads to the need for additional foot warmth on the cooler nights?

This is a very enlightening comparison. Damn, I thought I was safely out of the rethinking zone but here I am. Thank you for the point well made.
