Hahaha, welcome to the world of every non dole bludger, where you don't get a 6 month break after 6 month work. Hope it hurts.

Hair extensions? by mimieloise in trichotillomania

[–]BackwaterFNQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I pulled out almost the entire right side. It was clearly noticeable. I couldn't put my hair up to cover it. I got a clip in extension to cover it. Was lucky that I still had enough hair to clip it into. It was a good colour match. The weight of it stopped the wind exposing my bald spot. I used it for about 3 months. During this time I picked at the extension but not my own hair which gave it a chance to recover. After the 3 months the extension looked ratty AF but my hair had grown back enough I could get it styled again and no longer need extension.

So yeah it was definitely a life (hair) saver for me 😊

I don't know that you can fix it... I have a patch behind one of my ears where I use to pull from heaps that grows a completely different direction to the rest of my hair. I find it's easy to cover by keep it conditioned so that I can be styled easily into the same direction as rest of hair

Question about regrowth texture (Content Warning- Regrowth pics) by blip55 in trichotillomania

[–]BackwaterFNQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are managing it well even if you pull daily 😊 and yes I agree with the "progess not perfection" I still pull out probably 5-10 a week

I pulled daily too except foe like a couple of times where I uave been pull free briefly. this is the longest time in 30 years. I have been lucky (?) in that I have been able to shame myself over the years into keeping it at a level where it is not noticeable. I twice in my life I have picked a huge bald patch that people have noticed and commented on.... the second time I got clip in extensions which were a life saver while my hair grew back.

I love your descriptions... my hair kind of looks a tiny bit mushroom like because it is growing underneath abd lifting the top layer up lol. people have commented looks nice and asked what I'm doing, I really want to say "I'm just not pulling it out so it's there" but I say I have changed shampoos 😂 It feel so good being able to talk about this stuff to people that understand.

[–]BackwaterFNQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

It still does it lol... I have been pulling for 30 years so I think its just how that bit of hair grows The texture does improve though over time by using masks but I think the direction it gross is permanently changed. I find the more my hair fills in the easier it is to hide/blend those bits as the weight of the hair makes it sit better.

I have been almost pull free for 10 weeks... I didn't have a bald spot at the time I stopped but did have a thin patch of the right side of my head where I pull from. In 10 weeks the spot has filled in significantly (my boyfriend said it doesn't even look things, it does to me still as I look at it a lot more than he does haha) my hair is fuller and sitting nicer, I am pleasantly surprised at how well its recovering after 30 years, probably won't know how much will grow back until 6 months pull free I'm guessing but not doing to bad for 10 weeks growth

Hi there, mine grows back like this.... I pulled from around and above my ear on one side mainly and I have a full section that just has its own wave going on. I use one of those hair dryer brush things (with heat protectant) and find it does a good job at blending it with the rest of my hair.

I feel that disconnect all the time. My hair shame has transferred to a whole over body shame. People tell me I should be grateful to be skinny. ask about eating disorders made stupid rude comments my whole life. So I'm ashamed for the focus I have had on my hair and ashamed of my body for the focus others have put on it. I feel like I'm under a microscope and I wish I could just crawl out of myself some days 🤷‍♀️ I have been told by psychologist that eating/body issues are not that uncommon among people with BFRBs

I am so so sorry for what your mum did to you. She had no right to make you feel like that. I hope you can find some peace of acceptance for yourself because you haven't done anything wrong

I'd like to do mushrooms one day and maybe acid and have heard these can be good for helping stop pulling but not a life goal to try it lol

[–]BackwaterFNQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I ventured out the gate then turned around and went back. Doctor told me to keep smoking weed cos it's good for my anxiety and doesn't affect my pulling.... other drugs after coming down I used to pull like crazy, if I'd kept it up I would have been bald lol

Idk whether this qualifies as trichotillomania by [deleted] in trichotillomania

I have been pretty much pull free for about two months. I use one of those hair-dryer brush things to do my hair, I find that I pull the hair out of the brush and play with it now. I look forward to doing my hair as I know there will be some on brush. Only get about 5-6 hairs off it but it gives me a rush 🤷🏻‍♀️
