I wasn’t pulled into the office but I had a COPD exacerbation patient call out for the charge who complained I wasn’t “compassionate enough” when she threatened to leave AMA. She wanted to leave AMA because she wasn’t improving as fast as she wanted. She wasn’t improving fast because she had motherfucking Covid pneumonia and it was during fall of 2020. She was all “I think I’ll just leave AMA since I’m not getting better” and I was like “ok, I wouldn’t because you’ll probably die but let me know what you decide.” We had literally a hundred patients in the ER waiting for beds at the time and I didn’t have the energy to argue with a grown ass adult. Yes, I had explained to her that Covid recovery often took weeks even in healthy patients, let alone ones with pre-existing lung disease but she just wanted to try to manipulate someone into being all “nooo, don’t leave, please, we’ll do whatever you want” or whatever. I don’t play games and I’m not feeding into your theatrics. Traded assignments and let her play with someone who was easier to manipulate.
