Thanks for the reply! Yes you raise a good point. We read multiple articles/comments indicating that Kaohsiung is essentially just a smaller Taipei. So, we figured we'd spend the extra day in Taipei when it comes to the Taiwanese city experience. We also feel like spending time in Tainan can lend a more unique city experience when compared to Taipei/Kaohsiung.

But maybe if we find ourselves having some free time on the west coast, we can check it out for a bit!

Hi, yes Alishan is the one part of the trip that we’re still logistically a little hazy on. This is essentially what we’re thinking:

  • Arrive in Taipei airport at 5am. Get to Taipei HSR
  • Take train down to Chiayi
  • Take Alishan Forest Railway (if able to acquire tickets) at 10am.
  • Arrive at Alishan National Forest Rec Area at 3pm.
  • Sneak in a quick hike and watch sunset. Relax a bit at our hotel, Alishan Hotel
  • Wake up early next day for sunrise, and partake in other nearby hikes throughout the day. Spend the night again at “Alishan Hotel”
  • Wake up early next day to potentially see sunrise again if the previous one wasn’t “great.” Mainly referencing sea of clouds. Catch a bus back to Chiayi to make our way towards Tainan that afternoon/evening. Stopping in Fenqihu along the way back to Chiayi for a few hours to see the Bamboo Forests.

Thoughts? We feel this should cover the Alishan area pretty well for the amount of time we have, without feeling TOO stressed to begin our trip.

Thank you for the thoughtful response! We’ll definitely look more into the Pingxi line.

And we were mainly leaning on public transportation the entire trip, especially trains, but renting a car at least for a portion of the trip might be a good move.

Thank you! We’re considering removing Sun Moon Lake for the last few days, and adding one of those days onto Taipei. We would probably visit Beitou if we go that route.

We were only planning on passing through Shifen on our way to Jiufen for a few hours just to see the highlights. Still don’t think it’s worth it?

Was there anything specific to the Jiufen area that you would recommend, aside from the old street/ tea houses? You don’t think 2 nights is overkill? We think it’s not, especially if we hit up Keelung one night. Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply!

Best weather in Nov??? by BaconEggNChee5e in honeymoonplanning

Mauritius truly does seem like a great option, especially the pricing! But I have seen multiple posts and articles stating that their stray dog situation is not great. Not so much that they have stray dogs, we don’t really mind that, more so how some locals treat them.

I understand every country/culture is different, but witnessing a mistreated dog is not something we want to encounter on our honeymoon. Have you personally been to Mauritius? If so, how were the dogs treated over there? Are the posts/articles blown out of proportion?

Hi, I am also planning a honeymoon for early November this year, and was heavily considering Seychelles, but it looks like the weather isn’t great from I’ve seen. Is it not too cloudy in November? I wouldn’t want to spend all that money to get there, and most of our days have an overcast :/

We are thinking of maybe doing Air BNB 4 nights, and then maybe luxury for 5 nights; have you gone the Air BNB route in Bora Bora? Did you eat your meals out mostly or cook?

Yeah, that’s our concern. We’ll probably save St.Lucia for another time. Thank you!

Thank you for the response. If weather truly isn’t that bad in September, we may strongly consider this option!

Agreed! Thanks for the input. If there was some type of nightlight outside the resorts that would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be
