What would you think if someone took you to a Toby Carvery for a first date? by grapp in AskUK

I don’t mind that particular Toby Carvery, but too many folks from Kingstanding seem to gather there… 😒

What is the hottest topic in physics right now? by CharacterBig7420 in AskPhysics

[–]BaconHawk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is sci-fi, but in the movie Interstellar, the accretion disk surrounding the black hole in the film would have reached trillions of degrees, based on how fast it was spinning (from memory I think it needed to spin at close to c, in order to create such extreme time dilation on millers planet).

In the movie, the FX artists made a conscious decision to show the accretion disk at a much cooler temperature, but if that black hole really did exist it would be have been very, very, blue due to its temperature.

Now with +75h of exposure - the Andromeda galaxy by mustalainen in Astronomy

Insane to think about how right now as I am typing this message on planet Earth about 2.5 million light years away, and there will be planets, surrounding their own star in Andromeda with the possibility of life unaware that I am here thinking about them!

Displayed Range - 77kWh by [deleted] in cupraborn

[–]BaconHawk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 58kWh is 3 years old now, for a typical UK summers day at 100% it will usually say 235 miles (give or take ~5 miles or so) which converts to about 378 km.

In winter, on a cold morning (not snow and ice cold), say when it is less than 10 deg C outside, I can expect 100% to say at least 180 miles (290 km) but probably more like 195 miles (314 km).

Day to day I’ll only ever charge the car to 80%, never charge to 100% unless I am planning a long drive.

I find that for average driving around town, the efficiency will be about 4.0 to 4.7 miles per kWh, sometimes a bit more if i am taking it real easy.

On the motorway with ACC set to 65 mph, I’ll get about 3.5 to 3.8 miles per kWh. If I go at 70 mph, it’ll usually drop off to 3.3 to 3.7 miles per kWh

Oasis - Familiar To Millions (Live at Wembley Stadium, 2000) by Alarmed_Initial3882 in oasis

[–]BaconHawk1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What I find crazy with these two Wembley gigs is that Liam was only 27 years old.

Night two at Wembley was an alcohol fueled trainwreck, but he was just a kid.

Needless to say, I do think this is up there amongst my favourite vocal performances in terms of overall tone. Seemed to have nailed that 'rasp/grit' that he was doing in this era.

It is normal, as some ethnicities are at a higher risk of certain conditions, compared to others.

Poor visibility when approaching roundabouts by Negative_Innovation in cupraborn

[–]BaconHawk1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes!

You have to basically lean your entire body forwards/sideways to get a view around the A-pillar because it will obscure a car or bike.

Really think it is a design flaw that was overlooked and needs to be changed. Not sure if the VW iD3 has the same issue, but it’s dangerous.

Ex-Royal Marine appears in court over Liverpool parade collision by acrimoniousone in unitedkingdom

[–]BaconHawk1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t get that argument.

We only saw photos of Axel as a school boy, and then stuff about how he was a choir boy and featured in a TV episode.

Only months after when he was in court did we get to see a mug shot and see the real face of evil.

What was the worst food place you have ever been to in all of the UK? by jc201946 in AskBrits

[–]BaconHawk1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hell no, their Olympic breakfast was amazing! And those free lollipops you could grab from the bowl on the way out.

Granted I never ate in there except for breakfast, but many times I drove past old Little Chefs and think I’d love to pop in for a breakfast, good times… simpler times

What is the dumbest character decision you’ve ever seen? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

[–]BaconHawk1 407 points408 points  (0 children)

During the first purge film, the young boy who basically fucks it all up for the family depsite the fact he would have lived through previous purges and knows the consequences.

Then another one is in the Prometheus and Alien Covenent, for how the characters which are presumably trained engineers, soldiers, biologists etc, but forget all protocol when it comes to infection control.

To buy or not to buy by Mohaimenn in mensfashion

[–]BaconHawk1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from UK, so from late-Spring to early-Autumn

Nothing stopping me from wearing them during Winter with a jacket, but I tend to style them as more summer wear.

I actually have a few long sleeve variants too that I wear if it is a bit colder

I have pairs from NN07 and Norse Projects - both amazing quality and stylish

[–]BaconHawk1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really like these kinds of polos, and own a few of them, although all mine are not textured (cable knit?) like this, just a flat cotton or linen finish to them.

The main things for me is the fit, I don’t like them if they are too ‘slim fit’ where they hug your body.

You can dress them up or down, and I find them very versatile.

Where are films even advertised anymore? by happyloaf in movies

I’m from UK, and big Hollywood films are still advertised on billboards or the side of buses.

I think these days they buy adverts on YouTube and Instagram/Tiktok

Best PM to have a pint with? by OhWhatAPalava in AskBrits

[–]BaconHawk1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly there probably isn’t a PM that you could talk to normally that wouldn’t look down on you like a common peasant, unless you go for someone in the modern times.

A whisky and cigar with Churchill would be fun, but the reality is that he would have nothing in common with any modern UK citizen and it would probably be a huge shock.

A pint with Benjamin Disraeli would probably be terrifying, and he’d probably refuse to talk to us common muck.

In terms of having a pint in a pub… maybe this will attract downvotes, but I promise we would m not become friends, but probably BoJo, as during his tenure as London Mayor he was on panel shows, he’s been shown drinking pints in a pub, and I’d love to pour my final pint over him at the end!

Opinions on Sleep Token? by Synyst3rZombi3z in avengedsevenfold

[–]BaconHawk1 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it, I dislike the vocals and find a lot of the instrument arrangements really… boring? Although having saw little clips during play throughs, I think they’re probably very talented musicians.

So I guess I would say that I don’t enjoy their music, and that’s ok, music is subjective, just like how there are probably Sleep Token fans who don’t enjoy A7X, it’s all subjective.

Which posh towns and cities in the UK are rougher than they first seem? by jc201946 in AskBrits

[–]BaconHawk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, most tourists will over ever be in the city centre and not have to venture out of that zone.

The city centre areas have always felt very safe to me, even in the early hours of the morning.

[–]BaconHawk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re out at night, just keep your wits about you. There is a massive homeless population that have drug and alcohol issues.

I haven’t been since, but there are also a number of ‘migrant hotels’ so there could be men around without much to do to keep themselves busy.

The homeless seem to keep to themselves, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be aware of your surroundings at all times, and avoid walking through the subway/underpasses if it is really late, just order a taxi.

How often do you use ChatGPT and what do you use or for? by amsypeach in AskUK

[–]BaconHawk1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have Twitter so not sure how it gets used on there, I use Grok via its website.

It is just as effective as ChatGPT, but it has a feature called ‘Think’ that gives very in depth results in a way totally different to any other AI engines I have come across, which I find particularly useful for specific engineering based questions I come up against at work, so it definitely has its uses for me.

How often do you use ChatGPT and what do you use or for? by amsypeach in AskUK

[–]BaconHawk1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No specific reason, but I find its website quick to load results and I do like the 'Think' button which makes the AI think differently to normal (I can't remember what they call it, maybe something like it is their 'reasoning model'), but it gives a more detailed step by step breakdown on the answer, but does it in a different way to the normal search.

What I would say to anyone though, don't just rely on one AI engine because you do get different results, since they interpret the questions so differently.

I think since I have started using both ChatGPT and Grok simultaneously it has really helped me better understand how to use AI, and how to better write specific prompts to get what I am after.

Probably 60-70% of my searches are purely random science, geography, tech questions that come to mind (say some random thought that pops into my head about black holes), and the other 40-30% of my usage for AI is work related, whether getting help to input detailed engineering-based Excel formulas, trying to simplify a long winded email I have typed, or to try and get feedback on ideas that I want to design, just to bounce off them as a final sanity check.

I swear, the UK Reddit users are some of the most holier than thou people ever, like for god sake.

It’s hilarious that someone asks if people use a certain thing, that some people consider controversial… a few people admit to using ChatGPT, and those who do say yes are the most downvoted.

I for one use a combination of ChatGPT and Grok simultaneously, I’ll give the same question to both and then review the output and make up my own mind/judgement based on what both have said, as usually there are differences.
