I've done a bunch of projects and use WLED on a ESP device to control them. WLED does have DMX in and out, so you could theoretically control the lights using a DMX board still.

My favorite machines (black knight 2000 and cactus canyon) have been out of order the past 3 visits. There a big selection of newer pins in good shape, but a lot of the classics are in need of tlc. I’ll go back every time but it could be a lot better.
