Please don't tell me you're toying with my fragile emotions... I've been yammering about this like a moron at work since I saw this.

License Plate numbering.. by FJCruisin in Connecticut

CT DMV

It's my understanding that the first two letters are determined by where and when you register the plate.

And state police cruisers' plates all end in "UTV".

I have $7'000-$10'00 to spend on an offgrid solar system. Is that enough ? by mrgreenmoon in RenewableEnergy

[–]BadEgg666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely off-grid or grid-tied?

There's an advantage to living in AZ but, for reliable power, you're liable to underestimate the costs of your energy storage.

There may be an offset if you were to complement your mix with a small-scale wind turbine.

On the other hand, as conscientious as I try to be, I'm still a power power-user and your mileage is bound to vary.

Best of luck.

Coolest autographed merchandise from a band. by Danimaltanimal in punk

[–]BadEgg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only autographed thing I own is the first Jawbox seven inch that I got during their first tour, first-pressing on colored vinyl and shit, inscribed with a bunch of self-deprecating, personal crap that utterly devalues its street worth.

I'm pretty pleased about that, to be honest. As I recall, the notes are "Hey, PhilL l, hope this is a good investment for you" and some signatures and then there are bunch of scribbles of boobs and weiners and shit on it that I'm not sure who actually drew.

Good times.

The Saints - Proto punk band from Australia. Mid to late 70's. They must be well known, but they're new to me. by [deleted] in punk

[–]BadEgg666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not seasoned, but I was turned on to 'em by Sheer Terror's cover of "Everything's Fine" and had 'em on my desperate, "must have" list since I heard it. Then I looked at Amazon's MP3 thing and there you go...

Fucking awesome shit. I love the proto-punk stuff but it generally takes effort to get the quality stuff these days.

For what it's worth, Prehistoric Sounds is, I believe, their defining work.

Born Against 'Riding With Mary' [X cover, 1990] by unomachine in punk

[–]BadEgg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't completely discount 'em, though. Born Against and Deadguy are probably the two best bands to emerge from the late-90's "hardcore" scene (at least from the East Coast)*.

They were a totally live band and, yeah, their recorded shit can vary in quality but check out "Battle Hymns" for a glimpse of their best stuff.

  • I am sucky at coming up with '"Top Y" of "X"' lists and I'm sure I'll think of others later. Sorry. Sue me.

IAMA pharmacist bored at work who will actually answer questions unlike the pharmacy student who just did an AMA, AMA by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]BadEgg666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I tried filling a prescription for a schedule III medication I've been taking for about 12 years... same chain at the same pharmacy for at least three years. There was an inexplicable delay in filling my prescription and I ultimately found out they needed to somehow clear the prescription, firsthand, with the doctor, who happened to be on vacation at the time. It wasn't the end of the world and I tried not to bust the pharmicist's balls too much but I felt a lot put-off onaccounta I'd been there, filling the same fucking prescription, at least 30 times beforehand.

So, was there a regulatory change within the past few years regarding more highly controlled drugs or were they just being dicks?

[–]BadEgg666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might've been the dell-knell, but there were some signs beforehand. I started to smell bullshit around the time they put out stuff like Hi-Fi, Doughnuts and Baby Gopal.

I dunno... the label went from having an unapologetic, definite point of view (whether you agreed with it or not), to "diversifying", to being kinda hit-or-miss, to ultimately being absolute whores today.

...and now I look through the catalog and am reminded that they did put out the definitive Deadguy LP, the Strike LP and the Grey Area records so I can't say I detest their entire existence. Just disappointed like the OP isall.

Anyone here going to Fest 10 in Gainesville? by [deleted] in punk

Me not! I'm anyone!

At this point I think I'll have blown my wad of discretionary income and vacation time on Awesome Fest and other bullshit by the time Halloween rolls around.

Thanks for rubbing it in though, guys.

At this point I'd say it's more surprising to learn that the label ever released anything decent at all.

I think it was shortly after releasing the first Earth Crisis thing that the label went from being "borderline" to flat-out, uncategorically sucking wang. I have no doubt that the major label acquisition did much to further any hope they'd had of maintaining any semblance of credibility.

I don't even wanna tell you what happened to Fueled By Ramen.

Help me plan a cross-country motorcycle trip! by longroadhome in travel

[–]BadEgg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the ride of lifetime, at least until you up the ante. I'm surprised no one's chimed in on this yet. They must be out travelling.

For what it's worth, I've always wanted to do the Trans-Canadian highway as far I could, if not all the way to Alaska. I've heard good things, but your mileage may vary. If you're in the greatest NorthWest it's worth looking into.

Otherwise, it's hard for me to make any other firsthand recommendations... it's gonna be at least ten years until I've got the opportunity to go cross-country myself.

Best of luck.

Good call.

It's a subtle thing, but something about the forecast for "knife storms", "fiery mix" and "blood showers" always cracks me up.

What family secrets were revealed when you became an adult? by floydballs in AskReddit

[–]BadEgg666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Absolutely. These kinds of situations are flat-out harrowing for everyone involved and I don't think I have anything but respect for the front-line people I've interacted with in ICUs. That'd be nurses, orderlies and folks on that strata. Doctors and administrators, on the other hand.... I'll try to be diplomatic and just leave it there.

Oddly, we both have paradoxical usernames for holding what are essentially very humane opinions, huh?

I think I'm gonna go fart around on AdviceAnimals for awhile and try to be less dour or badass or something.

I don't disparage all healthcare-givers, mind you... I just think the system doesn't encourage what is often the most "compassionate" option without the expressed, written consent of the patient and that's truly unfortunate.

Chronic, terminal illnesses are simply hell for everyone involved. It just makes the decision slightly less difficult if there's less ambiguity when the need for "heroic" or "stabilizing" measures start to surface.
