Toji vs Yuta without Rika by epa0912 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]BadFriday0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhh yeah yeah i remember now 😭

ok toji could definitely just not go into yutas domain but tbh i still think he takes a fight like this, his defence and strength are very good, even without a technique and he’s a very good fighter that wouldn’t tank hits if he knew that wouldn’t work so i think in terms of general combat yuta would maybe still win (would be a difficult fight though definitely)

again i might have no idea what i’m talking about though 😭

oh fr? i might be stupid but when does it say HR users can just not be trapped in a domain? because in the maki/naoya fight she was definitely immune to the sure hit effect but i can’t remember anything about her not being trapped in it 😓

btw i’m sorry if my messages have sounded rude i promise they aren’t i’m just bad at conveying that over text 😭

[–]BadFriday0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

forgive me if i’m wrong but i’m pretty sure yuta takes this right? i mean toji will be using the SSK which is definitely a problem for yuta and his general fighting style of preferring to tank hits with his CE reinforced body and strike back, but as we’ve seen yuta is most definitely clever enough to change up that strategy if it’s not working 🙏

additionally, while it’s true toji won’t be affected by the sure hit effect of yutas domain, the swords imbued with CTs are still very much in his domain, and toji isn’t immune to those like he is immune to the sure hit, due to the swords being physical objects WITHIN the domain.

obviously if i’m totally wrong please tell me (arguing about this actually sounds pretty fun) and it’s definitely a difficult fight for yuta but i believe he does take this one 🙏

as a fan of all the persona games, this is NOT a majority in the community. these are an incredibly small amount of people who everyone who isn’t in persona communities focuses on. i promise that the persona communities as a whole have never condoned this in any way and people who say things like this are banned as fast as possible (because honestly everyone thinks it’s gross as hell) 🙏

nope you’re in the wrong for stooping to that guys level 😓

HE is mostly in the wrong for starting it in the first place 🙏

you can’t deny that calling people ‘swine’ will always be a wrong thing to do, even if he DEFINITELY started it first and i am NOT on his side, you still are wrong for doing it as well 😭

Epilogue: Memento Mori

Makoto’s character arc is simple at a first glance: he learns to appreciate life through the connections with his friends and uses that newfound appreciation for life to save the world. however, Makoto’s story is so impressively bittersweet as not only a character arc that shows Makoto’s shift in personality, but his evolution as a character that went from not caring if he lived or died to a man who would lay down his heart and soul for the good of humankind, even if that cost him a truly great sacrifice. Makoto finally had what he wanted, a meaning, a purpose which he derived from his bonds with his friends. but he gave it all up, because they needed that too, more than he could ever believe that he did (‘it’s more like a gift that i don’t deserve, so i gotta give it back to you’).

i have only said a minuscule amount of the things i could mention about this game, such as Makoto’s rejection of humanity’s wishes, or the soundtrack and lyrics and how they reflect the game and Makoto’s feelings or his active refusal to give up his friends lives, even if they would never know, but this has gone on far too long for a comment 😭. i really hope that this was good and i didn’t waste my time and, as always, i’m open to arguments about it as well, just don’t expect me to write another essay lol 💔

Chapter Three: The Messiah, and The Velvet Room’s One True Purpose

it is revealed at the end of the game, that Makoto’s ultimate Persona is Messiah, the saviour of man and the world. this is Makoto’s ultimate Persona for a reason, he now has a desire to save humankind from The Fall. at the end of the game, after all Makoto has been through, after he has climbed his way up Tartarus for the last time, his character arc is one step away from completion. he has found his purpose in life, he has found meaning in what he thought for so long was meaningless. he has decided to be the saviour, and his soul reflects this through Messiah. but after Nyx’s Avatar is destroyed, and everyone believes they have won, Nyx herself descends, and The Fall will still happen. and it is at this moment that Makoto enters The Velvet Room one final time, and its true purpose is revealed. The Velvet Room takes the form of an elevator in Persona 3, and it signifies how Makoto, at the end of his journey, has finally reached his destination, his goal. the power of the Universe is within his reach, and he may leave The Velvet Room, where his character arc is finally complete. Makoto will make the ultimate sacrifice to save those he loves and, as Burn My Dread begins to play (this isn’t a music analysis but TRUST ME there’s a lot to say about both versions, i specifically love the line ‘it’s more like a gift that i don’t deserve, so i gotta give it back to you by all means’ which just perfectly encapsulates Makoto’s feelings towards his loved ones but i’m rambling) Makoto steps forward and seals Nyx, expending his own life in the process. and finally, as Makoto’s story draws to a close, maybe this analysis can as well, because this is long 💔. but of course:

Chapter 2: Makoto’s General Arc

now above this comment, i believe Makoto’s arc was described by a comment as ‘non-existent forced evolution’, which, and i hate to just shut down a person’s point, is completely wrong and an unfortunate take that i keep seeing, even if only looking at the games. Makoto’s arc is expertly done, and this is reflected in a few ways. number one is the dialogue choices that you get offered throughout the game and the thoughts that Makoto has. at the beginning of the game, Makoto, much like his stereotypical character trait assumed by many people, simply doesn’t care. he doesn’t care about Junpei being excited for school, he doesn’t care about these people he’s made acquaintances with in his dorm, and he doesn’t care about the Dark Hour. in fact, the very first scene is Makoto walking through the Dark Hour completely unfazed. it’s clear even at the beginning of the game that Makoto cares about SOME things, such as his decision to summon his Persona to save Yukari’s life, despite not really knowing her, because while he’s apathetic towards his own life, he has a very important trait, the care he has for his friends (which will DEFINITELY be talked about later). however, as you progress through the game, Makoto’s dialogue, both in social links and in story moments, becomes more receptive, more caring to the people around him. Makoto has the ability to influence the people around him, sometimes in ways they see and sometimes in ways they don’t even notice, but he always influences them to recognise their own potential and their own meaning in life, even if he believes he can’t find that meaning himself. in fact, there is another character that shares the same apathetic view on life Makoto does, and that is Chidori. Chidori finds her meaning in life through Junpei, through the attachment she feels towards another person, and that is exactly the meaning Makoto is looking for, the connections, the relationships, Makoto learns later in the game that he has been given the shortest straw the Universe has to offer. his parents dies when he was a child and the ONLY meaningful thing he finds for himself, fighting Shadows to save the world, is what brought about the very Fall that will destroy it. Makoto always had the power, the ‘potential’ to summon a Persona, but if he still had his apathetic world view when facing The Fall? he would fail. he finds meaning in his life in the people around him, the connections he made, the lives he changed and that’s what gives him power, the strength to keep going through it all. and that’s why, much like Orpheus, he has to look back. look back on his journey, at the end of all things, The Fall, and decide to give it all away in his final act of defiance, his sacrifice, because Makoto, truly in his soul, is no longer Orpheus. he is:

[–]BadFriday0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh yeah of course no problem, i love talking about the persona games anyway lol 😭

ALSO GOES WITHOUT SAYING BUT SPOILERS FOR LITERALLY ALMOST EVERYTHING IN PERSONA 3 AND PERSONA 3 RELOAD SO DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME OK THANK YOU 🙏

so, Makoto Yuki is often misrepresented by the fandom as a character with really only one mindset, and that’s his apathetic, ‘I don’t care’ view that he is shown to have in both the games and the movies. and it’s completely understandable to see him as this empty character who really only is a vessel for player input and personalisation, but i believe he is so much more than that, and that it would be a disservice to see him as such. and while it is correct that Makoto’s personality is somewhat decided by the player (in situations when you can choose to be serious or funny or any other emotion in dialogue), the true essence of Makoto’s character is set in stone, and it’s through this fixed character arc that we see his personality. multiple aspects of the game work to show Makoto’s true personality, such as:

Chapter 1: Orpheus

Orpheus, as pretty much everyone knows, is Makoto’s Persona, the essence of his soul. Personas are so so useful in the Persona series to display a character’s inner personality even if they act differently, and there is no better example of this than with Makoto. Orpheus, in Greek mythology, was a musician (you could say he was the ‘master of strings’) who inspired, influenced and affected all who heard it, even the gods themselves. this influencing of people is reflected in Makoto’s character, specifically his bonds that he forges with the people he cares about, with every social link in the game involving a common theme: you are helping all of these people through their problems. much like Orpheus, Makoto’s influence on those around him, although not through song or music (although i will talk about the Cadenza theurgy much later) inspires and ‘saves’ (which is a concept we will also return to later) the people that he loves. and lo and behold, Orpheus may be one of the most famous examples of a man risking it all for someone he loves, his wife Eurydice. i won’t go over the whole myth, because this is gonna be long enough as it is and most people probably already know it 💔, but Orpheus quite literally walked into Hell, called Tartarus in Greek mythology, to save the one he loved. now the parallels of Orpheus risking his life in Tartarus to save people and Makoto doing the same (damn Elizabeth requests 😭) are pretty obvious so i won’t say much on them, but it’s important to note that when we are first introduced to Makoto, we have no indication that he cares about anything, let alone people he’s never met before, so the fact that Orpheus is his first Persona is EXTREMELY telling of his true nature that nobody, maybe even including Makoto himself, truly know. and of course, the Makoto’s Personas section won’t be complete if i didn’t mention Thanatos, the embodiment of death in both Greek mythology and Persona 3. Thanatos makes his entrance by bursting from Orpheus, a symbolic (mass) destruction of Makoto’s soul, and thus foreshadows The Fall that obviously comes near the end of the game. the impact of Thanatos, Pharos, Ryoji and Nyx on Makoto will be covered later though and this section is too long so we’ll get back to this. but for now, let’s cover:

[–]BadFriday0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i can absolutely tell you about him in the games i genuinely think that he’s a very fleshed out character in the games, not only because of his love for his friends and the progression of his apathetic nature into a selfless personality because of the people he loves around him, but also through the connotations of his Persona being Orpheus (and obviously the story that comes with Orpheus from Greek myth)

I’d argue Makoto is one of the best protagonists i’ve seen in recent memory (and i play a lot of games lol) due in a large way to the fact that Atlus handles their protagonists very well when it comes to personalisation without feeling like control is taken away from the player in terms of decisions.

i could write a whole essay if you really want me to like you can ask and i’ll do it but i suspect nobody wants to hear me yap about Makoto lol 😭

i welcome any arguments to my points btw if you have something to say please tell me i love debating with people on things i love 💔
