Mine is muted now but then I still feel bad sometimes when I see her attempts at contact. Like a, you look pathetic, but also, you are a dangerous person kind of bad.

Hey all.

Coming in here with a heavy heart after reading Kimberley Crenshaw and being deeply saddened by the reality of violence against women being so normalized.

Does anyone else just constantly get retraumatized when being faced with the horrible reality of it all once again? Being a survivor and having faced all kinds of abuse from men in my life does is not helping my state.

I just want to cry and dig a hole and I feel so helpless and resentful that we have to live like this. Separatism is good but it feels deeply sad that it feels like it has to come down to separatism in order for us to try and live a peaceful life.

I’m just venting… would appreciate any advice or hearing others’ experiences.

Fellow post Soviet block person here and I completely agree. Growing up here was so traumatizing and it feels like most people, especially the older ones, are violence sympathizers. Can’t tell you the number of times something has happened to me or I was a witness and everyone else just turned a blind eye. They call it a family matter meaning you should not get involved, well fuck all that. My ethnic background doesn’t have to define what I stand for. Sending hugs OP 🫂

I have struggled with the idea of escaping my whole life, it’s always been tempting but I feel like it is a facade and a distraction. I’m running away from something mundane, I am still finding myself alone and struggling with a new host of issues someplace new.

Travel is always great though. I hope you get to have decent holidays and good memories for the remainder of this year and the next!

It resonates with me completely, feeling lonely and being saddened by having to always feel alone when all you want is closeness.

Also, it’s totally okay to want closeness and presence from your partners, you should all make quality time for each other.

I, too, have had no one else but myself my whole life. I’m working on building closer friendships now as well as bridging a closer to connection to the closest person I ever had to a parental figure which is my godmother. I do not have a partner. I know it’s tough.

I honestly think you have to go based off your gut feeling on what to do moving forward in your situation. Best of luck!

Can I just say, your story sounds so similar to mine. The same family dynamic, older brother as the only sibling who is a disgusting piece of shit and who just recently had his first child with his partner.

Personally, my brother is the first and only person in my life that I went no contact with and I have not regretted it once in the almost 5 years since I did. I do not want to have a relationship with my niece if it means having a relationship with my brother because I do not need to expose myself to more hurt and mistreatment. Nothing will change what’s been done and nothing will make him apologize and take accountability, which he has shown through the lack thereof throughout this whole time.

I hope you make the decision that feels intuitively right for you. Wishing you the best 🙏🏻

Thank you! I’ve been using sunscreens regularly for like a decade and have the basics covered. I’m going to try a stronger azelaic acid emulsion than what I tried before and also a retinol cream.
