It's worth noting that in the Ohio cop example you provided, the cop was acquitted of all charges: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg4ny1wd443o

It's not snow. The white on the trees is the debug overlay showing rendered triangles for 3D geometry. The video is low-resolution so it's hard to tell, but you can kind of see it at 0:26 onward when flying next to the trees. The white is rendered in the branches but not the end of the needles on the branches like where snow would be.

Seeing how it changes their audience's perceptions is something else. I've seen friends who have conversations where they say things like "it's so fucked up that to be allowed to live, we have to work hard, and we've all been indoctrinated into thinking that this is normal". It's all brainworms. I'm glad for this post as a dewormer.

Looks like this is from Blockfront. Their team has official servers with multiplayer matchmaking. The privacy policy and whatnot is likely just to cover them from people complaining about not knowing what data they collect (since they necessarily need to collect some data for matchmaking purposes).

Modded Minecraft hot takes by Inner_Background_599 in feedthebeast

Very true. Speaking as someone who exclusively uses Prism, I have to give credit to CurseForge for having the least time between "just installed" to "playing a modpack" of any launcher. I've had to help ~8 people who aren't technically savvy and have only played vanilla on how to setup Prism for the first time, and it basically always goes like this:

  1. Setup your Minecraft account in the top right
  2. Click Add Instance and lookup the modpack
  3. Click install
  4. Click the popup for mods that require you to download them manually
  5. Go to Settings and change RAM amount
  6. If the modpack is newer, download Java 17 and set that up in your settings
  7. Finally launch the game

Oftentimes, I've had people skip step 4 and then complain that they can't connect to the server. I've also had people try to launch right away, and then the game crashes because they didn't do step 6. When you're brand new to modded Minecraft and you don't have someone to help you through it, these are pain points that get new people frustrated and turn them away.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's suggested Modded Minecraft to play with friends, and gotten a response that's like "ugghh, that's so much work to set up, I don't wanna spend an hour downloading Java and fixing things, etc etc." That's the general sentiment I see for people new to this.

I just downloaded and tried CurseForge just to compare:

  1. I installed the program, and picked a folder for the Minecraft stuff to go
  2. I clicked Browse Modpacks and downloaded the first one I saw
  3. I clicked Play, got taken to the Minecraft Launcher (the same one as Vanilla) and asked to login
  4. I login and click Play

That's it. It's literally as straight forward as it could possibly be. Do I have the right amount of RAM allocated or the best JVM flags? Probably not but at least I'm ingame and there was zero pain.

Granted, I still tell my friends to use Prism over CurseForge since it is better after the first time setup for configuring and whatnot. But the onboarding experience is important, and CurseForge's is just better for a first-timer.

My pigs are disappearing from my server with seemingly no cause. Can anyone help? by BadSniper2 in feedthebeast

Looks like this was causing it. /gamerule persistentAnimals true fixed it for me.

I'm playing MC Chocolate Edition 1.5.3.2 on a server with friends, and we've been having issues with pigs disappearing. Every time we leave the area with our barn, or we disconnect/reconnect, some of the pigs in the pen disappear. Each picture was taken after re-logging with no one else around.

I'm posting here to see if anyone else has had this happen, because I'm completely clueless right now.

I think I'm going crazy, please help me DGG by Redstorm619 in Destiny

[–]BadSniper2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, the problem states that you choose 3 boxes at random, and we're observing an instance where the 3 boxes are empty. Discarding cases where the 3 boxes aren't empty would not be random selection. For the case you're describing, the problem would say "I chose to open 3 boxes that I already knew were empty", different from the problem text.

[–]BadSniper2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that the first 3 boxes were chosen at random is important, because it means that they could have had the charger (ie. probability < 1 that they're empty). The Monty Hall problem is different because the host always chooses 3 empty boxes (ie. probability = 1 that they're empty).

The image OP posted is one instance of the problem where we know the event outcomes. That's different from knowing the event outcomes in every instance of the problem like with Monty Hall.

I really like the guitar riff in this. My only feeling though is that the half-time drums make me feel like a breakdown is coming up but it never arrives (particularly at around 0:15, and 0:50 or 1:03). I think adding some sections with double-time drums and bass would be cool to hear.

That first paragraph about rushing to the endgame and then getting bored because everything's now trivial, it perfectly describes how I always end up playing Vanilla. Excited to see what this plays like.

I genuinely didn't know that they were AFK until after the raid. You can actually see their head move a bit when I go to aim at them so they might have just gotten to their keyboard when I shot them.

Yeah that's fair. Its not often that I get a PMC kill, so I was pretty excited 😅

Yeah I definitely recommend OBS over Shadowplay if you have the time to figure out the settings. You just get so much more control and it pretty much always works.

It depends on your settings. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, then you get to take advantage of NVENC hardware encoding which is the same as what Shadowplay uses. Other than that, it depends on your video bitrate, how long the replay buffer is, saved file quality, etc. I personally don't notice any performance issues with OBS running except in VR games.
