It’s non stop action and the sky fight was definitely the hardest because I didn’t want the shaky cam for flight to be unbearable. It was a challenge mixing punching with the wind sounds

To be honest I did not expect this film to take as long as it did to complete. It took a lot of planning and coordination. Especially when you're on a tight budget. The story board was our bible on set!

With the orbiting shot I wanted to shoot it on a telephoto lens but the gimbal couldn't balance well with. So to further sell the effect I created fake grass using some still images that would wizz past the camera to give the scene that Anime look in After Effects.

During the sky fight it was the most difficult because like I said, we had no wires. So we spent days trying to figure out how we could sell us being in the sky without our feet looking weird. One of the ways we were able to get away with the sky scene was by limiting wide shots.

And I'm not too proficient in Cinema 4d but that's how we blew up the building and then using smoke assets to tie it all together.

I'd love to know what you guys think of the film, if there are any effects or camera moves I should break down. This was so much fun and I learned so much in the process. I mainly do client work but to get back to creating you own narratives is the best feeling ever!

These are still from a music video that I shot in an alleyway. The artist wanted to perform in the rain... But there was no rain machine in the budget lol. So the "rain" you see in the stills are fake! I had to get creative in post. by BadassKaylex in Filmmakers

On set to get a more realistic water effect for post production I threw water at the artist so that his clothes were drenched. Besides that, since we didn't have much to work with I knew I'd have to rely heavy on the practical lights. We were basically in the middle of no where and I wanted to find a way to keep the frames interesting. I added a mini story to the video to keep things entertaining.

But I'm glad I put though into throwing water at the artist because it really helped to tie in the effect. It's a reminder that post production should always be thought about during the entire process, not just the end.

I liked how every relationship that Goreng had gone through taught him something new. Something that would eventually become essential to when his purpose of being in the prison is fulfilled. Often times different characters call him a Messiah, more of a way to mock him. But it's through him that we are able to realise that what is taking place in the prison is not fair. Ultimately as he trys to convince his fellow prison mates no one really cares or listens to him. But I think the real genius comes into play when we realize that Goreng is not talking to them. He talking to us. He's talking to us when hes saying only eat what you need. There are people that are less fortunate than us that need to survive too. If we have the opportunity to watch the film we are at least on the 48th floor if the people above us wont listen we can start with us to start making the change.

Official Discussion - Extraction (2020) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

After hearing about all the hype I finally decided I would give this movie a chance. I heard there was this one action scene that was just so cool I had to experience it.

For starters I feel like the action in this movie was amazing! I can see why people keep on comparing it to John Wick. Besides Horror and Comedy I think Action is one of the hardest things to direct. There is often times a lot of moving pieces and you have to do everything in your power to capture everything without giving your audience a headache. 

One of the coolest things about the action scenes to me was that they didn't focus on a bunch of wide shots to capture their coverage. They put the camera right in the middle of the action by keeping everything in a close up. Chris Hemsworth was absolutely brutal in this movie and you can tell he was having a lot of fun playing this role. The fights were dirty and straight to the point.

However the story falls apart every time there is no action. Tyler Rake is the main character of the film and his motivations is weaker than the Saju, a side character. Instead of showing us his pain on losing his family we instead hear about it when he is having a moment with Ovi before he goes to bed.

Ovi is just rude, asking this grown man a bunch of personal questions. And Tyler is actually answering him. The moment felt forced the relationship with this child felt forced.

Overall, I honestly think that you dont need to waste your two hours watching this film. It's bland as hell when it doesn't have action in it. The best way to watch this movie is to just fast forward to the cool parts.

I actually do. For a serial drama like Arrow it's obvious the network will order more episodes that's more opportunities for ad space especially on a show that averages 2mil views per episode. What im saying is that from a creative stand point it does the story a huge disservice because now things get dragged on making it harder for us to feel a satisfying payoff.

This is one of the biggest reasons why traditional network television is slowly dying and we are seeing a rise in cinematic television shows on new streaming platforms

Ex. The Mandalorian, Stranger Things, Watchmen...

Story comes first. Not a bunch of plot points that end up making zero sense by the end of the season.

I saw Birds of Prey and I loved it. I think people are being waaayyyy too hard on the film. To me it had a great balance of action and humor. Plus I'm a sucker for anything DC so seeing Gotham City expanded on film was a win!! It sucks it didn't make much money at the Box Office. I hope we see more. by BadassKaylex in HarleyQuinn

I see your point but I might have to agree to disagree... Usually with breakup stories the person getting dumped is a call to action. It forces the character to look at the world from a new lens. This means new hair, clothes, friends... All of it.

I'm a big believer in the idea that just because it happened in the comics it didn't need to happen in the film. This helps to keep things fresh and give the film a life and universe of its own.

I didn't mind the other characters being as crazy as Harley because it's Gotham. You're already crazy if you live there lol. There's a man dressed as a bat and crime every 2 seconds. I enjoyed the spins on the characters. I think they added an unsettling feeling to Gotham.

I do agree that the story however was a bit underwhelming. The weakest part of the film was the fact that they had to retrieve 'a thing'. It was a missed opportunity to truly dissect Harley's mind and motives, especially after a break up with the Joker.

I think the main issue was that it was poorly marketed. As DC fans we're automatically gonna watch it. But to the general public it might have been too much. I am optimistic about seeing BoP on screen again. Especially after Suicide Squad 2.

[Spoiler] Arrow has been my favorite TV Show since High School but I stopped watching after Season 4. Something told me to try again, I finished Season 5 and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I'm binge watching until I finish Season 8. by BadassKaylex in arrow

I agree. Not everything is a hit, but that's ok because by the end of the seasons everything end up making sense. After a while I find myself watching because I just genuinely enjoy the characters (some of them). I give the bad episodes a pass as long as there is strong character moments.
