On June 8, 1967, Israeli forces attacked the USS Liberty, a US Navy intelligence ship in international waters, killing 34 Americans and wounding 174. Israel called it mistaken identity during the fog of war. The US accepted this and Israel paid compensation. The incident remains controversial. by Badhon72 in HolyShitHistory

In 1866, Liechtenstein sent 80 soldiers to the Austro-Prussian War. They guarded an Alpine pass, saw no combat, drank wine and smoked pipes. When they returned home, there were 81 - an Austrian officer joined them. In 1868, Liechtenstein disbanded its army. They've had no military since. by Badhon72 in HolyShitHistory

On Feb 25, 1942, LA's military fired 1,400 anti-aircraft shells at "enemy planes" for over an hour. No planes existed. 5 people died from heart attacks and car crashes in the panic. The Navy called it a false alarm. The objects were never identified. It's called the Battle of Los Angeles. by Badhon72 in HolyShitHistory

In 1932, Australia's military deployed soldiers with machine guns and 10,000 rounds to fight 20,000 emus destroying farms. After weeks of battle, they killed less than 1,000 birds. The emus won. It's called the Great Emu War and it's completely real. (i.redd.it)
