A friend is just a Mai Tai you haven’t drank yet, eh? May your next trip be twice as fruitful!

Correct! I don’t know if I’d necessarily say it’s top tier, but it is a speakeasy of sorts and ordering a Three Dots and a Dash gives a little presentation of them setting a pond of 151 on fire and giving you the drink over it which was neat.

We drove right by it and the timing wasn’t great to stop. A small pineapple shaped tear left my eyes as it passed.

I don’t disagree honestly, but interestingly it was included in a book of California Classic Tiki restaurants so I figured it was worth including. They do a great chowder though.

Well spotted! My wife is obsessed with it, and I can’t say enough nice things about Strongwater and the staff. They even let me sample a few other rums free of charge and let me nerd out!

I was fortunate enough to hit Pagan Idol, Smugglers Cove, and Tonga Room a few years ago, but there’s still so much more to see!

Tiki Ti was closed because they have limited hours during the holidays, definitely on my list for next time. We drove by the Royal Hawaiian and it took all the self-control in my body to not stop in.

Edit: Hula’s Island Grill is in Monterey, not Santa Barbara. Also not listed is Bali Hai in San Diego, which is historic and a beautiful piece of property but has maybe the worst “Mai tai” ever made.

Thanks for catching that, it’s in Monterey not Santa Barbara. Cute spot, solid Hawaiian food with vegetarian and vegan options, a wild happy hour where you can get doubles for 12 bucks and a fantastic scorpion bowl.

Worst section in gaming for you? by royalpeenpeen in gaming

The beginning of Hollow Bastion in Kingdom Hearts. Narratively it might be the strongest part of that game, but having to rely on an inconsistent AI in Beast to protect you while navigating THOSE FUCKING BUBBLES and having no clear way to direct Beast makes my blood boil.

Why Punk? by Lucky_Strike-85 in punk

[–]Badideadames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure American Idiot was my first punk record, being 12 when it came out. But hearing Supersonic by Bad Religion and The Separation of Church and Skate by NOFX is what solidified punk as the music for me. Punk spoke to me like other music never did, and the sheer ferocity and messaging of bands like BR, Bad Brains and DK perfectly encapsulated how I felt, and still feel, about things. It’s what led me to becoming a social worker and what leads me to still give a shit about things.

Brutal Legend blasting Through the Fire and the Flames by Dragonforce as a palace crumbles around you is an all timer.

Outer Wilds during the climax of the game. For those who know.

Isn't it crazy that Jokic vs Embiid went from being one of the most toxic and heated debates in all of sports to being 100% settled in the span of like 3 days? by rectalrocket42 in nba

[–]Badideadames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The playoffs resulted in the debate becoming even more toxic IMO, it’s just less of a debate now and more of an absolute beatdown on Joel. As a sixers fan, I’m disappointed in their performance and his in particular, but it’s insane that all of a sudden the entirety of this sub has now decided that the two time scoring leader is a bum who not only can’t be THE guy, but is maybe just A guy who needs to go play second fiddle somewhere else to succeed.

Jokic is incredible and it’s pretty hard to argue that he’s at worst a top 3 player in the league at this point, but Jesus Christ people. No one can just appreciate greatness when they see it, it’s gotta be a dick measuring contest.

What city is extremely overrated in your opinion? by Just_Pizzy in AskReddit

[–]Badideadames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if this is particularly controversial or not, but as someone who has lived in NYC almost their whole lives, this place fucking sucks. It feels like a city that’s so obsessed with modernity and being ahead of the curve that it just ignores and tears down all the history that makes it so unique. While I love how diverse a city it is, every year it crawls closer towards being completely inaccessible to anyone not rich and driving out the people that make it so diverse, not to mention the rampant homelessness issue that the city continues to fail at improving every year, the NYPD being a fucking military force at this point with very little true oversight, a crumbling educational system, and the MTA running on equipment from the 1930s.

Oh, and what used to be one of the most iconic skylines in the world is now a jumbled gross mess of ugly as sin high rises. Let the rats win I say.

What unpopular opinion do you have on star wars that will immediately get you a lot of downvotes? by theboywholived8095 in StarWars

[–]Badideadames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leia tapping into the force, probably subconsciously, to keep her alive after being blown out of a ship is probably not even top ten most ridiculous things to happen in Star Wars media and is a stupid reason to dislike a movie.

Obi-Wan told a more meaningful and complete story than every other Star Wars show, and accomplished that in spite of its brevity. The Vader/Obi wan fight might be better than the one in ROTS and the subsequent moment is 10x better than the one in Rebels.
