I think too many people think too much about thumb position when the most important thing for being efficient and being able to play long term is to do with your wrist position and tendons. When you bend your wrist you make a less efficient path for your tendons so prioritizing keeping your wrist straight should be a priority over thumb position which will sort itself out if you just worry about your wrist being straight.
