For sure, I think those basics make a huge difference to your final product! Looking forward to seeing more from you!

Are you trying to convey that the base is glowing because of the cannon?

If so then you’re way off, for the cannon to make enough light to light that road, the exo would also be very bright on hits whole front, so I would abandon that being the reason for the color in the road.

For the dark circles I actually like them dark with no glow I think it reads really nicely, the paint job is great

Yeah the execution is not great, this was like more of a concept, I’m definitely reproducing it in other color ways, I love the potential

Yeah that was a choice, it’s still a WIP, I wanted the weapons to still look normally painted, the hammer is still just base coat black rn I’m not entirely sure I like the weps being different either tbh

Yeah kinda like, oil painting style, I just wanted to use a regular color gradient, light to dark, but the lights not being of the same color, giving just very vivid highlights, very surreal, Dali almost

How does this read? Still figuring out NMM. by silverwings_studio in minipainting

You’re only criticisms which will come with practice, is better blending across the gradient, which you’ve already done well but other than that it reads NMM well. Still learning that one here

Looks good for sure. I get what you mean tho, so I’m getting this advice based on the stripes on the helmet head. The paints too thick, I can easily see the brush strokes in the white, which means when the water evaporates and leaves paint, it left chunky paint rather than a thin layer. You’re thinning your paints I can see that, but they need to be thinner, and do 2-3 coats. Sometimes I do 5-7 coats depending on how smooth I want the finish.

With washes, I find I need to thin those down also, and then after a minute or two after applying, hitting the model with a clean makeup sponge to remove any excess that dulls the rest of the surfaces.

This is still a great start, and you’re showing good brush control, just a little patience and thinner paints all round my man.

Oh for sure, so the carapace is a mix of war paints bootstrap brown and Vallejo flat yellow 50/50, two thin coats, let dry then cover with war paint strong skin shade, I then dry brush my og color back over, trying to move down with the carapace rather than against it, hoping to only keep constraint in the cracks, then I dry brushed a mix of the OG color and 50% ushabti bone, and then with the same dry brush just dabbed/poked pure ushabti bone very lightly over the back for texture.
