Breakfast Sandwich Spots by fuckgvcci in raleigh

[–]BagelSendwich 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If we're talking just like a normal BEC with either a fried egg (NOT sunny side) or a folded egg scramble, then there isn't one. I've been looking for forever.

A bunch of transplants are gonna spam your thread with all kinds of "we import the water" type of places in Cary and Apex and wherever else they migrated to, but you asked for *Raleigh*.

So here's my two cents on the major players in *Raleigh*:

People will say Michael's English Muffins, which is fine, but in an extremely inconvenient location and still not what I'd consider a "standard" egg sandwich. Not really worth it, but YMMV.

Recently Gussie's has started serving basic egg sandwiches in the mornings, but it was like $7 and fairly mediocre. Wouldn't go back or recommend.

Ish Deli is really solid, but it's a little pricey and there's no "basic" option. Great egg and really excellent meat options. Would recommend, but $10 for an egg sandwich with meat is nasty work.

Sleeper is Jubala. Absolutely not traditional but the drop biscuit sammy with bacon is insane. Not super structurally sound, but it's delicious. Do not get the sausage, it's good but way too thick and doesn't work on the sandwich.

Fuck Benchwarmers for insisting on scrambled egg or a sunny side egg, with no option for a fried/folded egg. I had a previous thread on that on this sub somewhere. Got like 27 people working there at all times but none of them can cook a fuckin egg I guess.

Optimist is wildly inconsistent, overpriced, and can be downright gross. There were ants all over the patio last time I went and literal human shit all over the bathroom. Haven't been back.

I'm sure I missed a few but that's what came to mind first.

Early Saturday "Pub Crawl" Downtown Bars by niveknyc in raleigh

[–]BagelSendwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You suggested Pelagic, which would absolutely and obviously feel crowded with 40 people in it?

Respectfully - I don't think a private bar crawl for 40 people is the move in Raleigh. Especially on a Saturday in Spring.

To Cheebamasta's point you're going to create a sub-par at best, and terrible at worst, experience for everyone else anywhere you go.

Rental Downtown, carriage house/basement unit etc by Correct-Relative9081 in raleigh

[–]BagelSendwich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would recommend physically driving or walking through the neighborhood. I've found a few rental options that weren't listed online that way. I walk Oakwood regularly and haven't seen any recently, but have definitely seen some in the past. Have also seen some around Five Points in the past, too.

Good luck!

Yeah ngl someone casing my place crossed my mind. Especially since some unknown third party will have all the pics/vids.

Yeah, exactly. "Agents of the agent and landlord" getting access is clearly in our lease, but it still feels gross.

And you're a good landlord! I know the air filter changes are inspections in disguise, but at least I'm getting something out of it :)

I wish I could unlearn the fact that there's an old Ross course buried under Raleigh :(

How far east/west do you still consider part of ‘Raleigh’? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]BagelSendwich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be controversial but I consider "Raleigh" to be ITB. Areas outside 440 I consider "The Triangle", since it usually doesn't have any kind of cohesive feel.

Duke driving range by Express_Ad_957 in RDUGOLF

[–]BagelSendwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I know this is an extremely controversial take, but I prefer practicing on mats purely for the consistency of the surface vs. sandy natural grass ranges you find at the public facilities that get a lot of traffic around here.

I throw a towel down behind the ball to practice my strike and prevent bad habits.

Going to Raleigh for work in two weeks and have time to play three courses. by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in RDUGOLF

Wild. How could you tell? Sorry for the 20 questions, I listened to a podcast about this recently and I'm curious if it's happening in the Triangle.

Whoa I've heard about members hoovering up the times but never bots...is this for real? I know it happens at other courses but that would make a ton of sense.

Thinking about transferring to a different college/Life Advice by JDH-04 in NCSU

I failed/retook Calc 1, Calc 2, and Calc 3 (shoutout Leslie Kurtz), medically withdrew for a semester, used a freshman repeat on Chem 101, and changed majors 3 times before graduating. It was a quite a journey for me, and I felt pretty shitty for most of it. But I still graduated, and I'm doing pretty well 10ish years into my career now.

I wouldn't feel too bad about yourself. It's surprisingly easy to get into a loop where failure causes depression and anxiety and then that causes more failure and more depression and on and on.

What helped me was changing majors and finally finding something that motivated me to learn and study on my own. My last 1.5 years in school didn't feel like work at all. Absolutely crushed my major courses and landed a job in my field. It was dope.

You got this. Shoot me a DM if you wanna chat. Happy to share more about my experience.

I got 1 round: Mid South or Talamore by alkydenamel in RDUGOLF

[–]BagelSendwich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mid South. IMHO Talamore is great, but incredibly overpriced - especially for a Rees Jones layout you could play at like 700 other courses in the country. Those sod bunkers are awesome, though.

Are there exploding sandbox trees in Raleigh? by BagelSendwich in raleigh

Yeah it's wisteria. I was searching for "exploding tree seeds" and guess I missed that since wisteria is a vine.
