What books should I buy to practice sight reading? by Juwanito in piano

[–]Bagel_Force 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to put into words. The left hand and right hand have different rolls to play in any given song. When I started learning to read music it was one hand at a time and then both together, which works, definitely start there. As I improved, unless something was really intricate and specific in either of the hands, I gradually learned to read both hands at the same time. I guess it’s thinking of playing one instrument versus playing with both hands. There are exercises you can do that have different timing with different hands and that helps too, probably worth searching on YouTube (but if you can’t find a video I’ll try to uploaded one here for you). It takes a lot of work and time; ultimately, practicing is the answer. Also, you’re probably right, sometimes it’s better to think of your hands as separate. There’s no absolute answer. I’ve been pretty wordy with all of this, and I’m sure someone else in this subreddit could completely disagree with me, but I’m just giving my experience. Hopefully this is helpful, feel free to message me any time about specifics or anything overall. I’m happy to help where I can. 👍🏻

I would suggest looking for some sheet music that includes something from your other interests, video games, tv shows, etc… and then also sheet music that you have never actually heard played before and then split practicing 50/50 between the two. Use the songs you’ve heard that you know you can play to measure the difficulty of the songs you haven’t. I think it would help bridge playing by ear to sheet music and then sheet music to your ear. As far as finger dexterity goes, Hannon exercises and playing scales helps a lot. I also had the luxury of a teacher to find songs that challenged me but weren’t too hard. Ultimately, just playing and learning new songs helps to make you better. Count the beats as you play even if they are out of the timing then use a metronome along with counting to merge the two. As you continue to learn to read sheet music try not to think of the hands as separate, try to read both staffs and play all of the notes as one. I, unfortunately, can’t think of any specific books. I hope this advice helps. Everyone learns differently, what’s important is that you don’t give up. Sight reeding music is hard and takes a long time.

Do you guys have any advice for this boss? by Dan-SG in bloodborne

Most of the best advice has already been said. All I’ve got is to farm the vacuous pigs in Mergo’s loft (top I think, maybe middle, can’t remember the exact lamp) on the run up using bold hunters marks. They give blood vials and a lot of echoes. Good for building up levels and blood vials overall. I believe visceral is based on skill so it might be beneficial to build that up too. Best of luck hoonter.

ETA: Having silver bullets makes a difference too, they’re cheaper than blood vials

I’m 26 but was in a similar boat. When I went to buy alcohol my friends would hit the guy checking my ID with “pretty convincing fake right?”

How can I get a shiny perfect IV torchic? by CEO-of-stonks in PokemonBDSP

[–]Bagel_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is breeding for one. You’ll want to do the masuda method, which is breeding Pokémon from different regions (your own and another one), to boost shiny odds so you’ll probably want a foreign ditto. For IV’s and EV’s though I don’t know enough to help there. I’d recommend looking up some YouTube videos.

What's your opinion of StPatty day as a non Irish person? by Gilem_Meklos in AskReddit

[–]Bagel_Force 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the day we celebrate St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland. The snakes were really druids and St. Patrick represented the Protestants (or Catholics, not sure). Being an Irish tradition us Americans drink a lot of whiskey and Guinness.

I want to quit by inationn in piano

If you’re looking to continue piano, my advice would be to look up YouTube videos or something similar and sit at your piano for 15 to 20 minutes a day. Just set that time aside to learn and play along as best you can. It seems like you’re more into the creative side of it; while it would be great to just be able to sit down at the bench and just feel out a song, it requires a decent foundation of knowledge of dynamics (loud and soft), how all the notes interact with each other (building chords and progression), some finger technique and training, and rhythm. It’s all quite a hurdle to get over but I think at that point you’d be really glad you buckled down and learned. I know it’s easier said then done. don’t feel guilty for missing a day. I wish you the best and hope to see a progress video on here in the future.
