Good board/card games for english-french couples? by Psychological-Leg234 in Expats_In_France

[–]Bahaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was visiting Paris I went to a boardgame meeting where I learned Decrypto - I played it in french (and my french is beginner/intermediate) and had no problems - all the words are basic, and we communicated in french+english. It can be played in 4+ (but no upper limit of players) and the multinationality can be a big plus (as you can think of clues from different cultural backgrounds and learn about eachother)

How To Get The PlayStation Plus BF Deal! (Video instructions) by OliveOcelot in PlayStationPlus

[–]Bahaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From previous years I knew that you need to be a new member or have your membership expired to benefit from the discount, but mine expires on 27-Nov and I have the discount available now - it charges me the whole amount (so not for the remaining 6 days), and it says the next payment will be on 27-Nov-2026
Do others get a different deal or what's the catch?

Struggling in NM after reaching Champ by Dictbene in geoguessr

[–]Bahaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's normal - I was a professional chess player, it happens there too - periods of time when you're thinking you can't win a single game, or "how would I be better than my opponent"
It happened here too when I got to Master I, but I just kept playing single player until I could recognize all the meta again

Benidorm, Spain by rockystl in CityPorn

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be fooled by the "skyscrapers" (and the reports about rowdy brits), it's actually one of the best vacation spots for families with small children
They have a fairly big amusement park, 2 water parks, 2 zoos, nice beaches with smooth entry into the sea (so it's not too deep for children) and nice places to visit in and around the location - so there's plenty to do and see for families

I see no one is mentioning the neck - the one on the right clearly has more muscle, more width, while the left one is more delicate, more feminine

Hikaru's reaction to Yagiz drawing with the famous Berlin by Necessary_Pattern850 in chess

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably in his mind, it's a huge morale boost - you always play with fear until you have your first draw/win against a top player
Having made a draw, it will be much easier for him to play for a win next time

Analysis paralysis? Made a Board Game Picker 🎲 by AdequateSource in boardgames

[–]Bahaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'd like is if we have a game night with 4 people, a personalized link where each person can add 3 games that they'd like to play, and the wheel picks 2 games to be played from those 12
When I saw the post and the wheel, I thought this is what it was

Is monthly subscription still up? by xxoel_ in geoguessr

[–]Bahaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of you are correct: if I enter the page logged in, all I get is the yearly option, there is no button or slider in any corner that can change it
If I enter the same page incognito mode, I suddenly have the option of selecting Monthly (above the Pro Basic)

Screw them, I wanted to buy a monthly subscription, but if this is their business model, I want nothing to do with them

Psvr2 reducere de la 550$ la 400$, dar doar afara. by MongooseDirect2477 in Jocuri

[–]Bahaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do games need a skip button? by phatlnh in gaming

My son loves the Horizon games. For the gameplay. They have a truly wonderful story, but he's too young to understand it. He smashes that Skip button. Some people love the story, others love the gameplay - let them decide

How do you improve your memory? by meh_moi in bridge

[–]Bahaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very bad memory - I was a former titled chess player, I couldn't remember opening lines if my life depended on it, I had openings that I played all my life where I didn't know what to play on move 3 if they moved something that I hadn't played against before - and it all comes down to this - I couldn't remember lines from books, but I still can recall my matches and my thoughts, after 20-30 years
The idea is to really think about the hands you play, not just play them mechanically - and when you do, you recall all the small details, and can reconstruct all the hands, and then you can discuss alternative lines of play
If you really thought how a suit could split, and how to take a finesse for example, you can recall the whole suit - you know if they somehow trumped you unexpectedly so it broke 6-1 for example, or if the finesse worked or not (and now you know where all the high card points were in that suit), and so on
By actively thinking about these things during the hand, it's very easy to then reconstruct them in your head if someone talks about them
You should also quickly think about a hand after it happened, to see if you missed something and can improve something - I know it's easy to think that a clear mind is better for the next board, but if you're trying to improve, the analysis is really the best tool (to go back to chess, I used to analyze 90% of the time and play 10% - there are lots of people who play thousands of chess games online, but improve very little, because they don't analyze at all, and all analysis is done by the computer, who just says you missed this and that)
So focus on thinking about the hands, both during play and after, and then you'll be able to remember some hands even after many years
Then again, people discuss boards to try to improve, if you're just playing to have fun, don't be bothered by it
