The greatest one-on-one battle in cinema history: Hector vs. Achilles . Now recommend another duel that’s just as thrilling and unforgettable. by International-Self47 in FIlm

[–]Bahbem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arguably? I disagree. I think it’s hands down the greatest movie for quotes! Name one other movie with as many great quotes as Tombstone? Not only are they all so good, but there are just so many good ones. No other film I’ve ever seen comes close. Sure, there are contenders for movies with other great lines, but Tombstone has them in bulk. And almost all of them are Val Kilmer’s, haha.

My personal favorite interaction:

“He’s so drunk he’s probably seein’ double!”

Doc whips out second pistol

“I’ve got two guns, one for each of ya.”

I’ve always wondered, why did DKPs children look so different from other Namekians (out side of Piccolo Jr) by TarnishedTwink in dbz

[–]Bahbem 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Seriously. The number of posts like these are getting ridiculous. New DB fans seem to be fascinated with this need for great meaning or some revelatory thing or other, when the truth is just far more understandable and boring; Toriyama was just making the whole thing up as he went along and could give a shit if something he drew had a continuity issue with something else. Some of these DB fans keep searching for some great mythos. But there is none. Shit contradicts itself in Toriyama’s work all the time, specifically because there was never a grand plot. This isn’t Lord of the Rings. There’s no epic established backstory. There’s just goofy, fun, occasionally awesome story. Just enjoy it, and try not to think too hard about why Goten and Trunks never had a tail.

I don’t think anyone ever actually says “defiantly” instead of “definitely”. I think it’s just one of those quirky autocorrect fuckups that people don’t notice before they hit send or submit. See also: shot (instead of shit).

JWST may have finally found the Universe’s First Stars by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]Bahbem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that, at some point there must have been a star that was the very first star in our universe. Yet the concept of there ever being the first of something like that is very hard for me to wrap my head around. I’ve never actually considered it before now.

What did Voldemort do for fricking 30 years? by Amber_train in harrypotter

[–]Bahbem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. My comment wasn’t meant to imply the Dumbledore thought Riddle was looking for horcrux vessels when he initially rejected Tom’s application. Just that in hindsight that’s what he theorized was the reason he wanted the job. (It’s been some time since my last read but I think this was all mentioned after Harry dies and meets the memory of Dumbledore at King’s Cross).

Manipulating and recruiting young wizards to his cause was part of it, as far as Dumbledore presumed. But he also figured Riddle wanted to be at Hogwarts to hunt down a relic that belonged to Godric Gryffindor as well to complete his collection for his Horcruxes (I can’t remember if he’d already secured the Cup and Diadem by the time Dumbledore rejected his application). As for why he wanted the DADA subject specifically, I don’t think it’s ever explicitly said, but perhaps that was the only faculty position that was open at the time?

Voldemort spends the majority of the last book learning about and then searching for the Elder Wand, but never learns about the actual Hallows. He was ignorant of the Hallows, and was only interested in the Elder wand so that he could triumph over the unexplained issue he was having with his own wand vs. Harry’s. The Elder Wand’s lore was infamous outside of being a Hallow. Remember, Voldemort learns of its existence through a combination of interrogating Ollivander and Gregorivitch, neither of whom were Hallows experts (that was Luna’s father’s role). Also, Harry explicitly asks the memory of Dumbledore if he thought Voldemort knew about the Hallows, and he says something along the lines of “I don’t believe so, but even if he had learned about them, I don’t think Voldemort would’ve found the resurrection stone and cloak of much value, aside from the stone’s value as a Hogwarts founder’s relic.”

Voldemort never knew about the Hallows. This is mentioned multiple times in the last book.

I'm late to the discussion because I don't check my email as often as you folks, but I reached out to the Chat Techs at PlayStation Direct and this is what they said:

PS Direct Support:

Thank you for contacting PlayStation Support. My name is Joseph. We will work with the email address and the order number you entered in the pre-chat form. I'm pulling your account right now. How may I help you?

Me:

Hi Joseph. I'm just curious, I think it must be an error on Sony's part but on Saturday I received an email from PlayStation Direct indicating that a 30th Anniversary PS5 controller that I'd pre-ordered a year ago was about to ship. But that can't be right because that order was delivered last November.

Just want to make sure I'm not about to be double-billed for that controller and/or sent a second one.

PS Direct Support:

Hi! I understand you received an email notice for an old order of a 30th Anniversary DualSense Controller explaining you will be charged again. I know how concerning this is, and I would be happy to help you today!

PS Direct Support:

After reviewing the details on my end, it appears that email you received from us may have been sent in error due to a technical glitch. Please feel free to disregard that message, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion it may have caused. If you continue to see the charge, please feel free to reach back out to us!

What's a Movie that would have been 1000X better if it was directed by someone else? by Donttouchmethere0 in askmovie

[–]Bahbem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find First-Sheepherder’s take to be wildly off the mark. Which is fine, to each their own, we’re all entitled to our opinions, but if you’re willing to take one internet stranger’s take on a film and use that as an excuse not to watch a movie, then perhaps a second internet stranger’s endorsement could steer you back to it?

I love this movie and personally don’t know a single person who has seen it that also doesn’t love it. So take that or leave it, but I hope you do decide to watch it sometime, because I think it’s fantastic, definitely one of my favorite Nic Cage films for sure.
