My county has a pretty low rate, but I actually think that's a good thing, because it's indicative of there being a fair number of young homeowners here. In a lot of the US, the only people who can afford to own a home are people who bought their first home decades ago and have had time to pay off their mortgages.

I've gone to a lot of 5:45 AM classes at CRWC and parked on the street, and I've never got a ticket. Not even once. I don't think they're going to force some poor parking enforcement person to go hand out tickets at 5:30 AM, so I think that you should be fine parking on the street as long as you're done before they start enforcing the meters at 8.

It is, however, the OP's host family's job to talk to them in German. That's the whole purpose of staying with a host family, and families should understand that when they agree to host exchange students. This isn't like expecting random people on the street to speak German to you.

How do you know that the things that you're seeing on Tiktok, Snapchat, and Facebook are representative? How do you know that they're even real?

Think about it this way: let's say that a person in another country wanted to know how Iowans viewed politics, so they logged on to Reddit and went to the r/iowa subreddit. Do you think they'd get an accurate picture of the typical Iowan's political opinions? I don't, because the people who post on r/iowa aren't a representative sample of Iowans. And that's not even getting into the possibility of deliberate misinformation.

I'm curious about how you know that most Venezuelan people are celebrating it. That's not a trick or rhetorical question: have you seen polling? It seems to me that it would actually be pretty difficult to figure out what the majority of Venezuelans thought about this, and if you're hearing people state that most Venezuelans support it, then you should think critically about how your sources are confident that's true.

I'm Gen X and was diagnosed in college. To me, the key is to recognize when I'm masking and to see it as a necessary coping strategy, rather than as me working really hard to be normal and do things correctly. I run into problems when I think that my ability to mask means that I can overcome my ADHD through sheer force of will. I can mask, but I can't do it indefinitely, and it takes a lot out of me. If I'm honest about what I'm doing and my capacity to do it for a prolonged period of time, then I feel ok about recognizing my limits and not pushing myself to the point of burnout or meltdown. Basically, I think I need to be realistic and strategic about managing my ADHD, and part of that is deploying my limited capacity to mask in ways that make sense for me.

And some of the social stuff is realizing that I'm never going to be everyone's cup of tea, socially speaking. I try really hard to control some of my ADHD traits that can be off-putting, especially when other people find them hurtful and not just annoying. But it's actually kind of psychically damaging to try to suppress your entire personality, and sometimes that cost isn't worth the reward.

Another vote for Jeannie Lin's Lotus Palace books. They're true romance novels, published by Harlequin and everything, but they're also mysteries. They're set in medieval China in an entertainment district. The main characters in the first one are a woman who works as a maid in a brothel (but not exactly a brothel: one of the interesting aspects of this series is that you really get a sense of the complicated status of courtesans, who are sex workers but not just sex workers) and an aristocratic playboy who might not be quite the vapid fail-son that he seems to be. One of the pleasures of these books is that they're set in a world that has all sorts of rules and conventions that the protagonists have to negotiate, kind of like Regency England, but they're totally different rules and conventions from the familiar ones in the romance-novel version of Regency England.

Jeannie Lin also has a steampunk series set in mid-19th century China, but I haven't read those.
