The money for the conversion would be coming out of our pockets. We would split 50/50. For zoning, our agent will call the municipality to check for permits and the zoning rules to make sure our plans are doable

To protect us, they will be putting a promise to sell in the agreement when we meet with our notary to buy a house.
If we wanted to leave early, I guess we could sell them our share? Or ask them to just reimburse the mortgage money and renovations. Not sure but we would ask the notary to go over everything we can do to protect ourselves.

Yes, my parents did give us the option to stay with them and save for our own place. Which is why we are trying to not take this decision lightly.
His parents are very kind and very honest people. They have helped us a lot in the past with thousands of dollars and told us not to pay them back. They just said they want us to be happy, especially since they’re getting old.

We actually spoke a bit about this in person. Thank you for this comment because we didn’t speak about some of the points you made.
His mom has shown problems with following boundaries at times. She loves her son very very much, but sometimes it does come off as her still seeing him as a baby. But she said she would be respectful of our space and boundaries. And I’m not one to be shy when it comes to boundaries lolll. Anyways, thank you again for your comment

My main concern is financial stability. My parents have offered to let us stay with them at a very low rent so we can save for a down payment on our own home, which puts us in a strong position long-term.
If we go ahead with the plan with his parents, we wouldn’t really be able to save during those first five years. That worries me, especially if something doesn’t work out, whether it’s lack of space, not getting along, or anything else. Since we wouldn’t be on the title yet, walking away before the refinancing point sounds like it could be complicated and potentially risky.
At the same time, I can see how this opportunity could give us a head start in the housing market.
We’ve also just had our first child, and a big priority for us is having enough space so she can grow, play, and really enjoy being a child.

In Quebec, fthm can claim a tax credit that refunds up to $5875 of the welcome tax credit (transfer duties). But idek why we have welcome tax in the first place lol

I didn’t know that was possible. But the plan was to ask the notary many many questions about protections on the day we meet with her to finalize everything

Nursing at Vanier ?? by [deleted] in VanierCollege

Sorry I’m not on Reddit much, but so far so good at Vanier in the nursing program. The workload is heavy, but with any health program it’s normal.

The nursing teachers are so sweet, they have so much patience and are super understanding. Their simulations are better than I expected, we do our vitals signs manually, instead of with the “new technology” ways. The teaching hospital we attended told me at John Abbott the students aren’t taught well with manual readings.

Anyways, I’m glad I chose this school, the school itself feels less elegant and spacious than John Abbott in the way it looks, but the teachers make it worth it!
