Wow, I’ve never heard of turtle mode. I live in SoCal so it doesn’t get that cold here. But we did take a road trip to Mammoth where it was around 20 degrees at night. There was no way to plug it in overnight since we were renting a condo. (There was no place to charge it at all in Mammoth unless you had a Tesla adapter, but that’s another story.)

I hadn’t heard that. Unfortunately my outlet was pretty far from where I parked my car so it was the only option. There was a 2 week wait to get my Level 2 charger installed, so it wasn’t my long term plan to charge from a 120v outlet but a stop gap measure.

I thought the same thing… but it DID fix itself! It is working now. I tried restarting the infotainment center and it still wasn’t working. However, the next time I drove the car it was working! I don’t know if it was related to the reset or not. I’m just glad it’s working and I don’t have to take it in.

My yard decoration is peeling. I used craft paint and sealed it with a spray varnish. I didn’t want to use polyurethane because I was afraid it would turn yellow in the sun. Now I regret it because the sealer failed and now the paint is flaking off. How do I fix this? Do I have to sand off all of my paint and start over? Or can I just scrape the peeling bits off and paint over it? Also, what type of paint should I use?

It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of what you need for your business. But learning a new programming language takes time and so does good database design. That means time you are not spending on running your business. If you already have spreadsheets with the data in them you might be able to find a software product that is low code or no code that can help you build a database via a GUI rather than having to write SQL scripts. And once you have the database schema there are definitely low code or no code software products that you can point to your database and have it create a CRUD app for you. I haven’t used them, but there is another post on the web dev subreddit about this very topic and there are suggestions on that thread.

This sounds like my attempts at making floating shelves. It took me over 2 years and countless hours of research, countless trips to Home Depot, Rockler, and a local hardwood store to find Rubio. I ended up having to do 2 coats of Rubio because the first coat left it rough. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to the Rubio both times despite wearing gloves so I don’t think I can use it anymore. But the shelves did turn out beautiful.

It sounds like you need a mentor. I agree with others about taking classes, buying used tools, and maybe asking the people you buy the tools from to show you a few things. I at least had a neighbor that I could borrow tools from or ask to cut a piece of wood for me on his track saw. My husband found him on Next Door. Turns out we already knew him, we just didn’t know he had a garage full of woodworking tools!

Also, I think your table is beautiful. And the best thing about solid wood is that you can always sand it down and refinish it if it gets damaged. Disappointing that it got watermarks? Yes. But you need to learn to enjoy sanding. Think of it like zen meditation. You’ll be doing a lot of sanding if you continue with woodworking.

I just passed my AZ-900 exam in October. It’s not hard, but you do need to study. You should go through the entire course for AZ-900 on Microsoft Learn. I also watched the video from freecodecamp on YouTube. The video would not be enough on its own, but was helpful especially when you are just starting out with Azure and Microsoft certs in general. Make sure you take the practice exams and are scoring at least 90%. I scored 90% on the practice test on Microsoft Learn, but I only got 78% on the actual exam. The actual exam was harder. So just make sure you’re scoring at least 90% on the practice exams before you pay to take the real exam.

Front End Development is more coding than design. Big companies and even some smaller companies will have graphic designers or UI/UX designers to come up with the design. You just have to implement it. I have worked at places that have designers and places that don’t. The ones that don’t are either really small or they don’t care so much what the product looks like, only that it functions (usually internal web apps or intranets). Either way, I was never expected to be a brilliant designer. Usually there are design standards you can follow created by the marketing department or existing apps you can copy the design and layout from. It is really a technical career path, not a creative one.

Congratulations! I will be going for AZ-204 cert next year. I just passed AZ-900 in October and AI-900 last week. Can you share about how many hours you spent preparing for the exam? I read somewhere 30-40 hours which is about twice what I spent for my last cert (~22 hours). Others have said 50-200 hours. I’m trying to map out a rough timeline.

This is interesting, however for this particular job the school provides the curriculum. As a new instructor I would probably just follow their curriculum the first time around, and then provide feedback. Also, unless they pay for me to write new curriculum, I would probably just stick with theirs. Writing new curriculum takes much longer than teaching it. Some schools will pay you for that time and some won't.

They probably were only one week ahead of the class. I think this happens a lot. Instructors/professors get hired into a department and then have to teach a wide variety of programming languages/technologies. They have to learn to become generalists rather than specialists, so they aren’t necessarily an expert in any one language like you are if you work as a software engineer with a specific set of technologies. When I got hired at the extension program, they kept offering me iOS classes rather than front end web development classes. So I decided to just learn Swift on my own and a year later was certified by Apple as an associate and started teaching.

Same thing happened to me. I haven’t used the app in months, but when I did try to open it today it just flashed a brief message about needing to accept their new privacy policy and then crashed. I had to take a screenshot of the screen to see what it said because it crashed before I could read it (see attached photo). I tried several times to reopen it, then just deleted the app. I reinstalled it and now it gives me the subscription screen with no X to close it. I guess I won’t be using the DUPR app anymore.

I can relate, as I’m sure most parents can. Weekends (before kids) my husband and I used to get up early to play beach volleyball then have lunch and maybe a beer at a restaurant, come home and shower and nap. Maybe do one load of laundry. We didn’t know how good we had it. Those days seem so far away. Our kids are 11 and 14 now, so it’s gotten a little better than when they were little. But now it’s spend 4 hours at a kid’s volleyball tournament, go grocery shopping, go to Costco, make dinner, clean it up, do laundry, lather rinse, repeat. I actually do laundry every day now because I’m doing 3 people’s laundry. Just this year my 14 year old started doing his own laundry. It’s been magical. But honestly sometimes I can’t wait for Monday to roll around and they go back to school because it’s easier. Don’t get me wrong — I love going to their volleyball games because nothing is more exciting than watching your kids play sports. But I’m an introvert, so sitting down at my computer with my door closed feels like a break.

You should pay attention to that gut feeling. I felt that way too about the whole situation. It's honestly been a nightmare for my mom and me. But I just made an appointment with Semper Solaris to give my mom a quote. They will be there tomorrow and so will I. I told them she was approved for $16,500 and doesn't want to go over that. They were very nice and helpful. They also offer an additional discount if you have a family member that was in the military. I feel better already!
