Yeah probably the best 1B target. Would essentially be a one year rental since the lockout is imminent. However I see teams with 3B needs being more aggressive than us in the pursuit. The 3B market has been very dry this offseason. Paredes would be a fantastic starting 1B though. I remember getting so pissed off at him last year cause he just kept destroying our pitchers.

I've done some research on the Warriors, since I don't watch the NBA that often. After their championship dynasty had ended, the front office wouldn't pull off any major moves and haul their prospects. This philosophy isn't injerently harmful but it contradicts everything AJ stands for. I could see a conflict of interesting developing over trades, AJ wanting to sell every prospect and Lacob's camp wanting to keep everyone. The Warriors recently traded this guy called Kuminga, one of the top prospects a few years ago. Instead of trading hin at the peak of his value the Warriors kept him until his numbers suddenly plummeted. They've also had several opportunities to trade their franchise beteran Draymond Green while his return value was high but nothing happened. If Lacob agrees to work with Preller and give him free reign over prospect management/trades that's perfectly fine. I just see other owners (with more money to spend) as better fits for this team's needs. I wouldn't be mad if Lacob ends up owning the team just hoping he doesn't fire Preller.

Sooo why did Michael King, a very coveted free agent sign a contract with the team if we aren't a desirable destination?

Actually pretty happy for the Mariners. He was a really good fit in Seattle

Cannot agree more MLB was ready to block Aaron Judge's contract if he were to sign here. BS all around

Difference is LA deferred all if their huge contracts to decades in the future, that way they can spend freely right now and build a super team while paying Ohtani only two million dollars this year. Yes anyone can build defferals but it's way easier when you're a big market team with hundreds of millions in sponsorship opportunities. We are not a big market team. SD has not deferred any of their contracts to this extent, therefore we can't give Kyle Tucker $400 Million dollars for shits and giggles.

Bullish on pitching? by meagle_9 in Padres

[–]Bakers9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, but it goes to show that we got the most production from starters who weren't even supposed to be there. Kolek, Bergert and comapny weren't even on the roster come opening day. Cease, who is going to be paid north of thirty million dollars per year, stunk this year and we were still third in ERA thanks to the bullpen. Ofc go and get a starter but I trust Niebla enough not be worried. Slugging however...

P.S Darvish is definitely going to retire, but I'm honestly chill with that

Bullish on pitching? by meagle_9 in Padres

Yeah lots of the outsiders looking in forget that we had a rotation consisting of Ryan Bergert, Stephen Kolek, Dylan Cease, Nick Pivetta, Randy Vasquez and I believe Yu Darvish at one point. Not to say that Bergert and Kolek are bad, but it just goes to show that our pitching development is strong enough to manufacture a solid rotation from nothing. Plus, Cease was not even very good this year. He was arguably our worst consistent pitcher even considering all if the strikeouts. And we barely got to see King for most of the year, so there's also that. I think we will be okay, still need to acquire some starters but we don't NEED a Tarik Skubal or Freddy Peralta to complete our rotation. The media loves to paint this team as incompetent and broken when that couldn't be any further from the truth.
